Lens advice for NEX EA50 (FE PZ 28-135mm F4 G OSS (SELP28135G) )

I am wanting 2 lenses for my EA50UH
1. A super low light wide angle/short zoom lens for wedding receptions. (still haven't found one yet)

2. A greater zoom lens for low light ceremonies that is significantly better than the kit lens when much zooming is required.
The stock 18-200mm lens quickly loses light when zooming (f/3.5-6.3) and the image suffers as it gains up.
If I understand correctly, the SELP28135G "when paired with bodies that have an APS-C sensor like the ..NEX-EA50M cameras .. its focal length extends to 42-202.5mm (35mm equivalent) range" , means that the new lens comparatively would go from 42mm all the way to 202mm giving be better low light.
So I would still need to use the old 18-200 for wide shots but for anything requiring much zoom, the new lens would be much better.
And it would still offer me all the camcorder-like e-mount features such as power zoom, OSS and autofocus.

Then again, the 28-135 won't give you as good reach as the 18-200, so if you find yourself using the full zoom of the 18-200 a lot, then the 28-135 might not have enough reach...

Thanks guys. Good points

My reasoning is that I often need significant zoom in ceremonies. Zoom = loss of light. 200mm is sufficient. F4 would be a welcome plus but ~100mm is too short. A 200mm F4 would be great.

In receptions I can usually get physically closer, so I shoot wide. A wide angle F2.8 with a little bit of zoom would be great. My other idea is to get a prime and then use the digital sensor 2X zoom to give me a little bit of zoom. I'm afraid an F1.8 would be too shallow for when groups of people are together and some of them would be out of focus.

It may be that my desires are not reasonable

Hi Firehawk My go to lens for receptions is the Sigma 18-35 F1.8 constant ...it's awesome and as long as you don't try at shoot with the lens hood 12" away from your subject, you have plenty of DOF especially at 18mm .. my rule is to keep around 2 or 3 paces away from subjects during "round the tables" shots which gives me tons of DOF even for 3 people in the shot! Wow you must stand a LONG way back!! My standard lens in Churches is a 17-50 F2.8 and if the Church is really big I use my 28-75 F2.8 ...I have never had to use anything more than 75mm so I sold both my stock lenses on the cameras ..If I do need a biggy lens I still have a Nikon 18-200 which is the same specs as the Sony but of course it's manual so it's much cheaper!

Hi Chris. Good to hear from you again. I was hoping you might chime in.

The sigma 18-35 1.8 looks great but it STILL isn't available for e-mount right? I have been wishing that was emount since it came out.
I really want an e-mount with autofocus and OSS because most of my help aren't exactly expert camera operators (cough). However since the EA50 is so easy to focus due to red peaking and manually zoom due to it's configuration, I might have to change my plan.
You still liking your EA50s a lot? I still like mine. The fact that it is also a still camera helps because I don't have to carry around a DSLR for stills too
