Lens adaptor and lenses

Hello all. My DVX came with the bellow lens adaptor and two lenses. The lenses are 20mm and 50mm.

How do I use or even at this point test the equipment? I screwed the lens adaptor with the 50mm lens onto the front of my camcorder and turned the camcorder on. I also turned a switch on the lens adaptor on and there was vibration (the little black box on the adaptor above, which I assume houses two AA batteries). However all I can see in the viewfinder is a tiny square image thats blurry. Any basic information about how to use this gear would be wonderful as I've never used lenses before. Is the 20mm wider than the 50mm (thats how ignorant I am about lenses).

Thanks for any advice to come!
Kevin

Did you not try and focus the blurry image? I've only used this type of adapter once, and i actually really liked it. Basically what you have to do is zoom into that square and film from there, you focus the lens manually throughout. Why bother? well you get a beautiful depth of field (depending on the lens) that's hard to achieve any other way on a consumer camera. The battery pack is there to power the vibration of the ground glass inside the adapter, this reduces the grain of the image. A 50mm lens is a great all rounder for lens adapters, a 50mm f\1.4 or f\1.8. You've got to be careful when screwing the adapter on to and off from the dvx to reduce the risk of damaging the dvx's thread. And yes, 20mm is a wider lens than the 50mm, but for use with adapters is not as efficient, as usually 20mm lenses have higher f-stops f\2+ making the resulting footage even darker. Hope it helps.

Brilliant thanks for that! I only tested the lens in a small room as it was night time. I'll have a bit of a play with it in the morning and experiment!

Thanks again

You should be able to focus on the screen inside the adapter. You should be able to fill the image frame, and I think it is supposed to be around z85. If you cannot focus on it, you will need to invest in an achromat filter that allows you to focus closer.

Oh my god! I only just got around to using this today and it's awesome! I don't think I'll ever take it off! A few queries however. I zoomed in to 80 and although it looked perfectly cropped on my LCD screen, after import the adapter was in shot down the left hand side. The lens isn't square. That is although on my imported footage the right hand side is perfect, there is a black bar down the left hand side. Is this normal with this lens?

Secondly has this adaptor got a specific make and model number? I have no idea what it's called.

Lastly would anyone recommend using this for weddings as it'll make everything look so much better. However I can imagine it getting a little heavy on your shoulder after a while.

Thanks!
Kev

For weddings I wouldn't use the DVX 35mm adapter setup. I would just use the DVX alone because, to me, I would want to be as mobile as possible.
