Lens ad ons for HVX200

Does anyone know if century optics or 16x9 will have telephoto and wide lenses available when the HVX is released? does the glass have to have a greater optical quality to work well? what about existing lens attatchments?

tco,

excellent questions, but since no details are known of the lens, other than the announced 82mm filter size, which is larger than the 72mm thread on the Panasonic DVX100/100a, Canon XL2 and Sony HDV cameras the suitability of any of the current accessory lenses is unknown. Your point about whether or not the quality will be sufficient for the higher resolution format is also valid.

But the fact remains, at this time no one knows for sure what will and wont work on the new camera.

Thanks Bill, so If I tried to use a century 82mm zoom through adaptor (one for a broadcast camera) It's anyones guess? I mean what makes a high def lens a high def lens? Is it aspheric lens parts? is the glass ground to a certin quality? It seems to me that if my 82mm century zoom through adaptor works great on a 2/3 inch dvcpro camera why would't it work on a 1/3 inch high def camera? This also begs the question: What kind of filters will we have to use with the matte boxes that will be available for the hvx200? I mean Schott water glass is pretty much the best you can buy, but will it be "good enough" ? Thanks again.

tco,

While the odds are that some of the larger broadcast accessories might well work, there is still the quality issue of something that was originally designed for standard definition being used on HD - tho certain of our broadcast accessories are currently being used with Canon and Fuji HiDef lenses on HD broadcast cameras like the Panasonic Varicam and the Sony F900.

As I said it is still speculation, accessories are designed with certain angles of view and characteristics of the lens such as focal length, f number and entrance pupil locations in mind and non of this info is yet available for the HVX200, and may never be until a production camera is available for testing and measuring.

The quality of Schneider Filters is more than adequet, currently being used on High Def cameras like those mentioned above, as well as the Viper, Dalsa, Panavision Digital Cinema camera , etc.
