GOT IT WORKING>

I have a lenovo S10e that I picked up from Radio Shack and the addonics adapter. It took installing the drivers manually but it is working. I downloaded some test clips just a few minutes ago.

That means that

Netbook plus addonics adapter = portable, battery-powered, p2 offload station with 160 gig hard drive for less than 600 Bucks.

I am so freakin excited about this.

Jason-

Can you give some more specifics on how you got the drivers installed and working? I assume since you are using the addonics adapter you didn't try to "hack"-intosh your computer to run OS-X, and you are probably running XP?

As far as pricing I saw radioshack had the lenovo s10e for 299 and I thought the addonics was around 60 bucks. So before tax it should only be around 360 or so?

Assuming you did a shoot where you filled up a several 64 gig cards, where would you offload them to since the internal drive is only 160 gigs?. I think you would need to have a external drive if you are going to do a long day of shooting (also might be good for redundancy).

How fast are you able to offload files to the computer? How many gigs a minute etc?

I am seriously considering this now that you posted this so whatever info you have to share would be awesome!

thanks and good work!

I will work up some instructions and tips as I continue to test this. There seem to be some quirks but its working.

As far as capacity I have never been able to shoot more than 100gig on a single day so this works great for me.

As far as cost I was being conservative with under 600. I got my computer and adapter for around 400.

Jason--
thanks for offering to put together some instructions. Definitely looking forward to hearing about the quirks.

Curious to know how fast the transfer speed is on this device, how many gigs minute are you getting?

thanks!

Yeah man!! Awesome that's what I'm talking about. Would be interested to see your test results and instructions. Keep us all posted!

how's the battery life on this netbook?

i plan on hooking up buspowered external HDDs to do completely outlet free offloading.
