Length of clip after Time Shift audio plug-in

After I apply Time Shift to an audio clip, it does a great job of slowing it down. But the clip doesn't actually get any longer in the timeline. So after the slow-down, it ends abruptly, and I can't figure out how to extend the clip in the timeline any longer. The original clip was only 3 seconds long, and the slower clip is still the same length (just with slower sound in it).

When I listen to the audio Preview in the Time Shift plug-in window, I hear a full, longer version (about 4.5 seconds) of the slowed down audio clip. But again, it won't let me lengthen it in the timeline. What's the trick?

EDIT: Okay, as so often happens, I struggle with a problem, and then finally resort to posting the question on DVXuser...only to then suddenly stumble on the answer. And such is the case again. It's a strange fix though! So I use the "master clip" option, by dragging the original audio clip over onto the AudioSuite Window. This opens up the "master clip" options. And then if you check "load result," Avid will automatically load the rendered audio clip in the source window. And that new clip is the full, new length. Note to AVid: that's too complicated!

if you extend the clip before slowing it down, you'll have room for the added duration. It does not work like any other NLE in this case. You are not slowing down or speeding up a clip at all. You are filtering a already created clip.
long story short, you'll have to set the duratiojn of that clip before hand.

Yeah, I wondered about that...but if the clip itself is originally only 3 seconds and that's it, there's nothing to extend. I could mix it as a longer clip in an outside program with just empty silence. But I'd rather not have to go outside Avid to do that.

Using the Master Clip options creates a new longer clip right within Avid. It's just a bit of a process.

always give yourself handles for this. You can bust out a quick audio mixdown to give yourself these handles this time.

Yes, but if the original clip HAS NO handles (e.g., an audio clip was only ever recorded and imported as a 5 second long clip--a sound effect for example), how do you add handles in Avid? I don't think you can. I'd have to do that in a 3rd party program. If I slow down the clip with the time effect, it's still only 5 seconds. I might need 10 or 15. And Avid won't let me extend if the original clip is only 5 seconds...unless I use Avid's "create new master clip" option. It's the only way I can see.
