Length of cable limitation for new iris/focus remote?

How long can the new Iris/Focus remote wire can be (for both the DVX100B and the HVX200? I'm thinking CCU type application here. Imagine being able to control the iris remotely from an OB van on a multicam shoot to balance all cameras.

Also, anyone know the specs on how this new remote works? I know about the rec/zoom remote; surely some form of data is out there if one wanted to built his own controler?
 
You can use a regular 1/8" jack extension cable and it will mostly work with the remote iris/focus controllers. I don't know how long they make those cables, but I've used a 16' with no problem.

The only limitation on a generic 1/8" stereo extension cable is if you want to put one of the functions (focus or iris) into auto mode; the 1/8" stereo cable gangs both functions together so if you put one in auto mode, they both go in auto mode. Other than that it works fine.
