Hi,

First post here so hello!

I've got one of these lenses which I purchased used along with an AF101.

It seems a great general purpose lens and the images look really nice but I'm having a few issues with pulling focus. I'm finding that it can be quite 'steppy' or judderry when pulling focus between different distances, and I can see the focus scale on the lens 'hopping' rather than moving really smoothly as if it's fighting some resistance. It also seems to be variable, sometimes it's smoother than others. Being focus by wire I'm wondering whether this is just an unfortunate function of the lens or whether it has a fault? It also makes a bit of an electronic whining sound when the camera is running (but the OIS is switched off).

I'd be grateful of your thoughts...

Thanks

Mine does the same exact things. I'm inclined to think that's just the way it works.

Still not an altogether lousy lens, and still not sure I'd trade it's range for the purportedly smoother function of the 12-35.

My lens has the same issues - focus and sounds.
So it seems it is not so good for video. It is time to change it

Thanks for your thoughts, seems like it's just something to live with. Have to say I like the picture quality and the OIS is impressive, just have to know its limitations...
