Legend Of The Drunken Samurai

My friend and I made this short film just for fun. It was the day I got my DVX 100b and we just wanted to shoot something. We had no script or crew. It was just us ad libbing and a tripod.

I know it's far from perfect. The sound is pretty bad because we didn't have a real mic, just the camera mic. We didn't have lights either. The only thing we had real control over was the editing. We learned a lot from making this and since then too. We've learned about lighting and sound and depth of field so it looks more film like. Our next film will be much better because we'll have the right equipment, a script, actors and a crew.

I'm not trying to under sale it, I think it's quite funny and has some good things about it. Please check it out. In the meantime, any and all comments are welcome.

Why post on here if no one watches my video and comments? Somebody please check it out and comment? Anything about it at all. Thanks.

It looks filmic only sometimes ,most of the time takes are too long and i was questioning myself why it didnt cut to the next take already ? Its quite boring to watch some takes, you wrote about DOF but i didnt saw any experiments here with it ,you should zoom in quite a bit and you could make some interesting ,really nice closeups with DOF.
And maybe try to crop it to 16:9 or 2.35:1 it adds some filmic feel.
I think you should avoid static takes ,it looks like a lazy job ,maybe do yourself a steadicam or something ,static takes are tooo long and are boring to watch if everything is in focus.
Its friday today, day off so maybe not much users are online to post and comment.

Thanks for the reply. I agree with most of what you said. We definitely could of used more DOF but we were new to it. We've learned a lot about that since then. It was hard because we shot a lot of it in the street and cars kept coming and we would have to move. You should see the amount of footage ruined by cars. The shots were static because we had no one to operate the camera when were both in a shot so we had no other choice. A steadicam would be great but they cost so much and all my money went to the camera and my new computer. Thanks again for the reply.

If youre using static shots then try to do more cuts and faster ones ,cause after awhile when looking at static shot filmic feel disappears ,at least thats my opinion after testing progressive shots, and maybe dont shoot on maximum zoom out, zoom in a little bit ,turn on manual focus and then sometimes you can accidentaly get blurred out background and achieve nice DOF,also shooting perspective of your camcorder will change on zoom and footage will be looking better especially on close ups.
