Can the dvx be left in the cold for say....5 hours without anything bad happening to it? I know Its not the best scenario but still. anybody know? RUSH PLEASE!

I think it should be fine, provided the elements didn't get into it.

People shoot out in the cold with these all the time. The most important thing is too prevent condensation when you bring it back inside. Put in in a heavy-duty plastic bag (like ziploc) and try to squeeze as much air out as possible before you seal it. Then put the camera in your camera bag or wrap it in a blanket. You want the camera to adjust to the room temperature very slowly. So bring it inside in the camera bag. Wait a few hours, then remove it from the camera bag. Wait a little while longer and remove from the plastic bag when it feels close to room temperature. Should be fine if you let in adjust S-L-O-W-L-Y.

You might want to search for other posts about condensation.

If you shoot out in the cold a lot, you might want to look into getting a Polar Mitten.

Hope it's ok!!

I've had my dvx out in low teens (F) for hours with no problems and do what OGshooter said when bringing it inside.
My wife just got done making a warm cover for it out of fleece where I can put three hand warmers in it (2 on the bottom and 1 on the back of the battery). I haven't felt like getting out in the below zero temps we've had lately to test it though.

haha I live in Alaska so I've shot more in the cold than I have in the warm temperatures.

I filmed some backcountry skiing last weekend and it was -23 F out. When you bring your camera in, take the tape out, and leave the door open. Been doing it for years, works perfectly. No plastic bag is needed.

Any ideas if these same rules would apply to the Panasonic hmc150?

Looking to shoot a film out in the winter cold for about 2 hours.
