LEDGO LG-D1200M Fresnel - Anyone experience?

http://www.ledgo.hk/en/WorksInfo.aspx?id=271

I've been on the hunt for an LED fresnel or mono light with good CRI and bowens mount with no little/fain noise. I want daylight equivalent to an Arrilite 750 or 1K that i for use in softbox but also bounce. I've been stumped on good solutions and came across the D1200M. It looks like this light might meet my needs with just enough light at 120W power draw. LEDGO has tested really high in TLCI numbers in the past and my local shop even started carrying them which means support.

Previously I had been considering the Alzo3200 low noise but having an old 3200 with crazy fan noise and crap colour I'm hesitant to give alzo another go with my money even if it is a few hundred cheaper.

The LEDGO looks great. And BRIGHT. Tightest spot putting out 41,000 lux at 1 meter. 12,000 at widest.
That's a nice light.

At $1,500 it's a fairly expensive light, and that puts it in competition with a lot of other great offerings. Seems to be really new - so not many hands-on reviews to be found yet.

I was talking to my local dealer and they just got them a week ago. I took a hands on look and they look very well made and completely silent which has been my biggest problem in finding a decent LED fresnel/par style light. Other than pricing (which is still less than most other LED daylight 1K equiv fresnel) this light hits all the boxes I was looking for.

-Daylight Output similar to 750-1K tungsten
-Silent operation
-Bowens mount for plentiful cheap modifiers
-Aluminum body
-Spot/Flood control
-Battery power option

That Dedo DLED9 looks very interesting but ends up costing the same without barndoors and lower power at 90w vs 120w for the LEDGO. I would have to buy new modifiers to fit. If LEDGO hadn't been testing really high for CRI/TLCI I would normally go with the dedo out of reputation alone despite having less features on my checklist. I'm not convinced these days that the bigger brands LEDs are a lot better quality then the best of the middle guys.

Is that their published results or independant tests?

New DLED7 Turbo being launched very soon so might be one to pay attention to.

They were performed independently if I recall. I'll have to find the numbers again to confirm source.

DLED7 Turbo sounds interesting. I'll have to keep an eye out if I don't decide to roll the Dice on the LEDGO D1200M.

The Dedo and Fiilex stuff is amazing and proven...if you got the cake for them.

Past history of LEDGO says this light will probably be a winner. And I sure as heck like the Bowens mount.

I'm going to cool my jets over the weekend but I have a sneaking suspicion unless I discover a deal breaker I'll get the LEDGO D1200 in the next two weeks.

Because this light is so new its impossible to find anything much about it and one question eludes me till I have time to go to my local dealer and get hands on it again and talk to my dealers although its all new to them also. I know from watching a video on youtube on the little brother to this light that it needs an adapter to go from LEDGO fresnel lens mount to bowens mount and the adapter also holds the LEDGO softbox. I haven't been able to source out if the adapter is purchased as a lone accessory or comes with the softbox. Can't find a single listing for either with pricing.

I still think this might be the LED fresnel I've been waiting for but its always tough to be an early adopter on your own dime.

Frame Farm - I'm somewhat in the same boat... wanting a fresnel with punch - and would like to go the LED AC/DC route but also haven't been able to see a lot of what's newer first hand - so yeah, definitely update this thread if you pull the trigger. Another contender for me are the Dracast LED's. I bought a couple of their bi-color 1'x1's last year (which can run on v - batts ) and have been happy with them - and they have multiple sizes available in the fresnel cat...

Unless I discover some reason not to I think I'll end up with this light by end of week. I've had so many duds over the years trying to find affordable LED lighting solutions and being an early adopter but given the LEDGO reputation for great colour in the last year or two its making it a little easier to take the jump. If I pull the trigger I will do a quick review.

Here is all I can find video wise about this light and its little 60w brother.

Those were the tests I had in mind but the D1200M isn't listed there so I must have either seen it elsewhere or just messed up the numbering.

Here is the LEDGO numbers and spectrum but not independent.

When I had hands on with the D1200 the colour looked decent to the eye but that was very unscientific. For a chinese manufacturer they have a good track record for colour quality. Options for affordable daylight fresnel are limited so I'm hoping for a winner in the D1200. The other option in similar ball park but more $ is a 200w joker which is probably more versatile and similar output but I have come to enjoy the flexibility of dimming when i can't control the size of the space.

1500 bucks?? I think I'd look around at used HMIs...

The price in CAN$ at my local dealer translates to $1231 US. I haven't seen any decent used HMI's in this price range. The only ones I have seen were much more or completely beat to crap.

I'd love suggestions. Approx range of $1500. I want something that can be a daylight hard source to replace 750-1K tungsten fixtures and take readily available modifiers (octobox, softbox, beauty dish etc). Dimming and battery operation is nice also. I don't shoot narrative and rent for the budgets that call for a larger package. A work a day Key light that is easy to slap on a softobox or gel or cut with barn doors. I have LED panels and biax flo units. They all have their uses but require more grip to flag and control on minimal setups than a nice octobox with grid.

Just got one of these today. Pretty nice unit, and pretty well made. All heavy duty plastic, with a decent zooming mechanism. Heavier than it looks too.

Just fired it up and looks pretty punchy, just from eyeballing it, colour is not bad, needs a tiny bit of correction imho. Fresnel seems to change the colour a bit when zooming out, again just by me eyeballing it. Power wise, its pretty good, but its not going to lit up an interior enough keep the sky outside a window at midday, its about 2 stops too low for that at max output, which aint bad for a 120W draw.

Also can't get dead hard shadows no matter where the fresnel is, close but still a little furry.

I have two Lupo Daylight LED units on the way, a 120W and a 200W, so I'll do some proper testing once they arrive and see how they all compare.

Had an ARRI L10-C, & ARRI 1.2K HMI Fresnel, on location a few weeks ago. The LED is a very nice light but the HMI had a better defined beam.

It's pretty DIY, but I found a 150w Osram GX9 globe with great daylight rendering, which works with a $45 ballast available on Amazon. Modded one of those 3" theatrical fresnels (like an Altman 100 or a times square, $30 eBay). Cold-start but the size means it cools in a couple minutes. Fixture, ballast and cables pack into a small Pelican, equivalent to about a 650 tungsten.

The whole mess - including the fixture, ballast, housing, cables - well under $200. Could be a decent solution, and of course you could mod a larger fixture for this if you wanted a bigger lens - I have a one-cart interview kit that this works really well with.

Originally mounted in a 3" fixture, but you get the idea. Really doesn't look DIY.
