Led Panel Merry-christmas

Finally, I made this damn thing. This was a dvx users(ZOOM) project that I picked up and gave a try. I didn't know anything about electronics so I had to learn. I'm posting these pictures to help us non-electricians.

I used a sony NP-FM50 battery and a sony charger.

The battery- http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...s&Q=&sku=170959&is=REG&addedTroughType=search
YOU CAN FIND THEM CHEAPER THAN THIS. BUT THIS IS ONLY AN EXAMPLE.

The charger- http://www.calcellular.com/fm50-charger.html

The leds- http://www.projectx.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=21

The pc board- http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103799&cp=&pg=1&kw=pc+board&parentPage=search

The project box- http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062280&cp=&kw=project+box&parentPage=search
I'M PRETTY SURE THIS IS THE BOX, BUT IF YOU HAVE A RADIOSHACK NEAR YOU, CHECK IT OUT.

Then just a few wires, a solder gun, and a glue gun.

Here's my setup ENJOY!!

Nice..........

How long did it take you to make it??

It took about 2 weeks waiting for the parts and 5 hours to put it together. The only thing I didn't mount yet is the hot shoe. But if you guys have any question's feel free to ask.

Hi twocik, it looks like u didnt use any resistors in there.. maybe u wanna include some to limit the current. The LEDs will last longer with resistors. Anyway, kudos to sharing!!

HI ENGR
I took 2 leds and soldered them together to equal one head. Meaning the volts on leds are at 3.5v(each) and the battery is at 7.2v. So to do the math 2 led x = 7.0v and the battery at 7.2v. No resistors needed.

..heh, it took me a moment to realize that I wasn't seening double with those posts!

Twocik, yrou LED light looks good! I await seeing it on your camera along with a couple of grabs.

well done twhocik32, i tried it and failed...not sure why, but some of the lenses 'died' or 'dimmed' after being soldered on - perhaps my soldering iron (cheapo) was too hot and some how killed the led..

notice some of the transparent leds....

You have to be careful with how much heat your solder gun puts out (it should only be 25 watts). Be cautious on how long you hold the solder gun on the leds. GOOD LUCK!

twocik23, nice results...however, you might think about investing in a professionally laid out, etched, masked, and screen printed PCB. They cost about $40 for 2-3 the size you need, and you can do things like a large ground plane--preventing shorts from having too much/too big/ too globby, soldering, nice "+" and "-" pads for the battery to be soldered to, and you can go with a bigger size that is customized to a housing other than that from radios hack!
Oh, you'll need a PCB layout software program, a couple years of layout experience, and maybe some design rule knowledge! (PM me, that part I can help with...have the software and have designed/laid out 30+ PCBs)
