LED light panels suggestions from China?

Got my YN600, and the fan really is unbearably loud. Haven't used it on an actual shoot yet, but I imagine this would prove to be a problem and make the light pretty much unusable.

I've found that running at 100% brings the fan on after about 20 minutes, but running at 90% the fan has never come on. Could you try that?

Yeah, I haven't properly tested it yet. Only at 100%. Still, they should have just limited its max output and not put the fan in at all. It's very loud, on account of being so small.

It was at night, so reasonably cool, maybe around 25 C or so. Now that I think of it, I did have those useless barn doors closed, but that wouldn't affect anything since normally you'd have the protective diffusion filter thing over the bulbs anyway.

Okay, I think it was actually the barn doors. Left them open at 80% and the fan didn't turn on after a solid half hour.

I shoot with the barn doors open (facing forward) and with diffusion pegged to the doors but NOT overlapping the main unit, so there is ventilation from the unit's vents and also out of the top between the barn door overlap.

Testing with barn doors closed is not real world since you'll never shoot like that - will you?

Yeah, I just assumed that having the barn doors closed wouldn't affect anything (there is not ventilation around the front) and didn't want to light up my room.

Fan still comes on at 90%.

I've had good luck with that YN600. all daylight version . color temp doesn't change with dimming and I don't need green or magenta with Sony cameras anyway. RED needed lots of magenta. extremely bright. If you take the plastic gel things out of the light it doesn't get as hot, and I've found I can shove a stick in the fan to stop it and continue running with no problem. Kind of a dicey idea but they're only $100 now.
There's a 900 now but i'm concerned about the fan and about getting an AC power supply for it. . You can adjust it with your iiphone!

Did some quick colour temperature and magenta bias tests with my LEDs. Took RAW stills of a white card, dropped them into Lightroom and did a custom white balance. All showed magenta bias, though the camera raw numbers are pretty arbitrary.

Amaran 528W: 5200K, 31 magenta bias
YN300: 5300K, 26 magenta bias
YN600 at 5500K: 6000K, 7 magenta bias
YN600 at 4500K: 4600K, 5 magenta bias
YN600 at 3200K: 3100K, 2 magenta bias (Pretty bizarre, aren't tungsten LEDs generally worse?)

wgtwo -
I don't know lightroom . Can you give me some other measure of what those bias numbers represent - say compared to a Minus green Lee gel?
Also are you saying they are too magenta???

By the way I use the Comer 1800 from LA color all the time because that intensifier gives it a concentrated round medium spot throw and i use it for specials . its great a little extra to carry with you. Taky at LA Color is a phenomenal seller. If anything goes wrong he is right there for you.

I'm not sure what the Lightroom numbers represent - as I said, just arbitrary numbers. But yes, they seem to indicate that all of these 3 panels have a magenta tinge.

Lenilenapi - how has the 'pencil in the fan' been working for you? How long have you run the light like that? Still working?

works great, just don't use the included plastic gels as they sit too close to the LED's and then it gets hot. Throw em out!

I would still keep them for transport - good protection.

I tried to open mine up and cleanly remove the fan. Couldn't figure out how, so instead I got a pair of clippers and just removed it manually. Doesn't look great - big hole in the back of my LED panel.

I'm a little dubious about that magenta call on the YN600. I usually find I need nothing on them but if anything I've had to correct for slight green not magenta.
