Lebron James Video

Hey everyone,

New video up at www.imagenfilms.com that I was asked to direct/DP/edit for Lebron James new website at lebron.msn.com. Ther version on our site is much cleaner and color corrected, so check that one out first.

We were asked a month ago to put together a short film to intro the website. We had 2 weeks to prep, 19 locations to shoot, and it was pretty crazy. We shot with a Canon XLH1 in 24F mode (yuk) in 2 days and edited in 1. We also used the mini35 with Zeiss primes. All in all we're pretty pleased with it and it was a lot of fun.

Enjoy.

Great work MArty.

Jim Laffery pointed me to your website a while back. Beautiful stuff.

Looks gorgeous Marty. Super sharp and the cc is nice.

You didn't like the 24f? What was your overall impression of the setup?

I really like the XLH1's form factor, but after having the XL2 for a couple of years and true 24P, the XLH1 falls short. Since frame mode essentially de-interlaces footage on the spot, it leaves "ghosted" images on the current frames from the previous frames, which is really noticeable when there is a lot of movement. So in the end, you get this strobed/ghost effect.

Also, the monitor is TERRIBLE. Very bad color/lighting callibration, and the WEIRDEST strobing effect. We had another monitor, but whenever I was looking through that small monitor, I was worried the footage looked all whacked out. Not sure what Canon was thinking with that monitor and 24F.

Frame mode on the XL1S was alright. It was SD and less noticeable. Jumping up to 1920x1080 resolution though makes it very apparent.

I LOVED the mini35 and cine lenses. I found it MUCH easier to use than the G35 setup I usually go with. What a great system the mini35 is. I have to shoot a short this weekend with a G35 and Nikon lenses and I am pretty sad about it now :(
