leaving batteries on charger

1) I probably should know this answer... but I was wondering if it is a good or bad idea to leave a battery on the charger after it's charged. I know it shuts off when fully charged... and assume that it goes into a "trickle" charge to keep it at full charge. If that is the case is it okay to always keep the batteries on the charger so they will be ready for the next shoot?

2) ...what about leaving a battery on the camera when packing the camera into its case? Is that okay? ...or better to be left off?

thanks in advance

All the Li-Ion chargers shut off completely after charge is terminated. It is due to Li-Ion chemistry, it does not like being trickle charged at the end of charge. I would remove the battery as the charger is often warm even when not charging. The batteries do not like being warm.

I would just add to what Alex has stated with regard to the second part of your question, i.e. leaving a battery on the camera when packing...

That's very subjective. When I prepare for a shoot, I always test all my cameras menu's, tape, etc...and then place the cameras in their cases with the batteries on. At the end of a shoot, I take the tapes out and take off the battery. That's just a safety precaution because as Alex stated, these batteries can get very hot, especially if shut inside a secure case, and I have had occasions in the past where I've forgotten to shut off the cameras at the end of an evening, Not a good thing.

I always take the battery out of my HVX when I'm done shooting. I do this because on the first day I got the camera, I didn't notice that I left the camera on (I just closed the LCD), and the camera sat running on my living room floor for four hours before I noticed...
