Learning about settings

Can anyone recommend a good place to learn about the settings pon the 100B - gamma and all of those options.

I'm sure in the end it comes down to making changes and looking at them to see whatn your own tast is, but I'd love to have some general pointers.

Also, can I trust the built in monitor?

I've found that I'll have an image that I love, but that the zebra is showing. Should I trust my instinct or never ignore the zebra?

Do most people use the zebra function and if so, set to what?

First, do you have Barry Greens DVX book? It has all the pointers you need to get a good understanding of everything and then can understand what will happen if you do this or that....

You cant really trust the monitor as it is small and the colours arent really a great representation........ that said by using the evf dtl you can get a pretty good focus.

Hmmm zebras, I basically only use the zebra at 100 setting, this tells me im going too far. I prefer to use the marker. Again exposure is a relative thing, for example a shot with a subject and say a practical in back of him: The practical will show up in zebras whilst his face may be correctly exposed, then you can ignore it. Watch anything on TV tonight and you WILL see over exposure in parts of many shots. But it is minimised of course. Look carefully and you will see what I mean.

you really should get barry's book. it has a lot of useful information and will explain the differences between the settings. the dvd shows examples of what happens when you adjust things like gamma. if you're starting with no prior knowledge, like i am, a guide to the camera is invaluable.

You shouldn't be allowed to own a DVX w/o one.

The marker is a function on the zebra button that tells you the exposure of a certain area of the frame in a percentile fashion.
