FEATURE: Leap: Revelation

Realized I that with the new screenplay, a new synopsis was needed, so here it is

Synopsis:
The Vatican took control, just as the Bible said and now they're hunting down all who oppose them. When the Leap Crew disappears, Blake Owens and his team take up the mission of sharing the truth about the beast and it's mark before probation closes. With every case decided, the world suffers the seven last plagues which lead to the climatic event of earth's history-- the second coming of Christ.

The footage is from the Occupy Spokane movment where we'll be shooting the city scenes, including scenes with martial law being enacted. This shot was a test in matchmoving and crowd replication, as well as compositing.

Yep. I was screwing around with seeing how the tank I downloaded looked and didn't care too much. The second one is more of what will be in the film.

I’m an in an amazingly great mood right. I bought a brand new laptop yesterday – something I haven’t done for five years or so. While not top of the line, it’s not bottom either. More of a mid range. It’s still better than what I had been using. I got Vegas installed and now I’m loading the CS6 suite. I’ll still have to get all my plugins too, so I’ll be at this for a while, but at least I’ll be able to edit and not worry about the computer keeping up with me. I may still have to do an offline edit for feature work, but for some of the commercials I’m starting to line up, I should be able to do it all in full HD, which will be a HUGE time saver. This is the first computer I’ll own that won’t be running Celtx, so I’m excited about that too

If I treat it right, I should be all set for Leap 3 when the time comes, as well as cutting the trailer for “RUN”, which we’re shooting Sunday and Monday.
 
With the formation of the ministry, I decided to redo my logo. It's the same mesh as before, just new textures.

I also picked up Element 3D for After Effects and we'll be using it pretty extensively in the film. Here's a shot of when the sun goes supernova.

Wanted to share the trailer we shot in two days while I was back in Spokane. This is for the other film I'm producing right after we shoot Leap 3 this spring. Oh, and I attempted to act in it, as well as did some stunt doubling, so watch it at least for that ;)

Couple of comments. On one of the shots of the guy and girl 'working out', there's a wyrd streaking effect... was that on purpose... The 'day for night' needs work... I'd suggest more bluish cast.

My 'favorite' running girl trailer is this: "Lola rennt"(1999, aka "Run Lola Run")


The thing to notice here is the interaction and cutting for the 'trailer' to up the up the emotions. You have a couple of 'interactions' for example the shot of the running girl on a large rock... but I think the 'running' shots of just running need to be cut down or eliminated, and just the 'interaction' shots.

Another odd note that... theres a shot of a 'middle school' to I presume give 'locaiton', then there's a shot of an adult (though young...) doodling... When I see 'middle school' I think of kids between 12-15 or so...
 
Thanks for the comments. Yes, the streaks are on purpose. She's supposed to be "flashing back" to an earlier point in time. The middle school kid actually is 13 and was a last minute choice. And I agree there's a lot of running, but that's what the director wanted. Since we live so far apart and she doesn't have much experience, I wanted to give her a lot of leeway for the trailer so I could see where she's at. There's actually hardly any running in the feature at all :)

Been spending the day learning some stuff about Blender. While I’ve used this amazing piece of software since high school, they’ve been making some major changes as of late, especially for visual effects work. It has built in planar tracking now, among other things that I’m really excited about. Today was spent learning how the cycles render engine works (love it!) and getting familiar with the fluid simulator so I can do the end of the film where tsunamis take out cities. Even did a mock test that turned out pretty nice. Watching some of the tutorials today on the features, I found it funny that many of them were done by kids that couldn’t be older than 13. I was blown away by what they were doing, and the understanding they have of the software. Can I hire them to join STARS Digital?
 
Did a test of turning water to blood today. Next time I'm going to try a different picture style, not happy with this one.

I used the secondary keyer in Colorista II, and a roughly keyframed mask where it attacked the trees. Took about 30 minutes to complete the 7 second shot. Also did a sky replacement of course.
 
Here's a list I started the other night of the effects I need and how I may do them. Still have a LOAD to add. :undecided

That is pretty cool, but I agree the colour needs to be finetuned. The orange sheen doesn't balance so good with the more washed out greens and blues. Corrected to the deeper colour of fresh or drying blood might have more impact. Or conversely correct the background to a deeper blue and richer green. I remember there was a really good 'river turning to blood' scene in a short lived tv series (all the best ones get axed after season, just as people are getting into it) called American Gothic. That might be a good reference for you. Otherwise it's a pretty neat effect.
