FEATURE: Leap: Revelation

Thanks, I didn't realize the link didn't work for everyone.

Yeah, I'm loving the look I got out of this camera. Shot the whole thing at Raw 3:1. Only took up about 4TB on my 8TB drives. I would love to see camera companies make a push for global shutter again, but who knows?

It's the "manage" link; one that you're sending while you're logged in that only you see while you're logged in.

If you ever want to test it, log out and click a link and you'll see - but it's a common issue I've seen a lot.

In general, Vimeo has changed so much that for the first time ever I actually filled out a poll and comments section (if anyone even sees it) about my displeasure with the company's direction, lol.

I have never done that because change is inevitable and I'm pretty understanding, but they just keep cluttering and moving and cluttering and moving, creating confusion in the process.

Global shutters are finished. Kinefinity recently released a camera with one, but no one else has bothered in a while. Supposedly DR takes a major hit with one.

IDK, but the UM4K sensor has one of the worst dynamic ranges out of all cinema cameras with a LOG option so that makes sense at least with that model.

True. I really had to work hard to protect my highlights, but shooting RAW allowed me to then lift the shadows cleanly and get a nice exposure. I think my next camera might be one of the BM pockets. I'm really impressed by what I've seen from them, and it would be nice to have a lighter camera again. Fully rigged, my UM is about 20 lbs.

Buried in VFX land right now. I have around 150 shots, the majority of which are invisible effects: Removing equipment and crew, adding a casket to a funeral, stuff that hopefully won't stand out. There's plenty of noticeable VFX near the end of the film though, and I'm not looking forward to tackling those.

I finished the rough cut for the film back in October 2023, total run time is 85 minutes making it my longest feature yet.

Things I have to do before I can release it:
1. Finish VFX
2. ADR scenes that need ADR (this is the first time we won't have to do EVERY line :) )
3. Take care of music
4. Color Work
5. Sound Mix.

My wife and I finally moved out of an apartment and into a house on 5 acres with a shop building that I'm turning into a studio. Living the dream! Unfortunately, moving has pushed the release back a little and now I'm aiming for early fall to have it complete.

Kudos to those of you that have followed this wacky journey for 13 years!!!

Getting close to wrapping up VFX. I'm working on the final scenes right now. Had my lead actor come back out from Idaho to do his ADR last week and showed him the current cut of the film that I have.

I can't remember if I talked about this, and I'm honestly too lazy to go back and look, but I I'm super impressed with how well DaVinci Resolve has handled post production so far. I cut the film online using the RAW files straight from the camera. I was able to do the entire 85 minute movie in one timeline too, no need to break it up into reels. Part of what has helped is that I have a brand new computer that I built from scratch: i9, 64 GB RAM, and a 3090 GPU. I'm working in ACES and round tripping shots between Nuke and Resolve has been flawless. I was able to record ADR in the Fairlight page no problem as well.

Now that I only have a few shots left to do, my attention is turning to sound and music. I'm also starting to work on a new script for "Derek", which I'm now calling, "The Devil's Game". It's intended to be a real thriller, without the Christian moniker, though there will be a little Christian message but it doesn't preach at the viewer. I just want it to be a fun movie.

Speaking from the point of view of a viewer not filmmaker, make sure the film's cgi and editing does not look like a syfy original TV film; those don't sell well to viewers. Hoping that the choice of music sounds good too.

Popping back in for another update. The VFX are done and I'm super happy with the results! The majority of the effects were comp'd in Nuke X, but I also did a handful in the Fusion page of Resolve Studio just to play with it a little. I signed up for a paid plan at suno.com and generated a few background tracks to use, and I'm currently working on original score inside of Mixcraft.

Also been working on some story ideas for a new movie, as well as getting back into Kenpo Karate. I guess that's my update for now.

Congrats! Can you go into any detail about what that means? What happens now? Are you happy with the outcome?
Next step is to prep and send a hard drive with all the requested deliverables. From there, it should be two weeks to hear from their in house QC team, and if it's all good, they'll start pushing it out to the streamers, starting with Amazon and Tubi. After that, it will take at least six months to get my first payment as Indie Rights is paid quarterly from the streamers, then they pay the filmmaker a quarter later.

I'm thrilled to be working with them, they were my first pick, the second being Film Hub. I wanted to go with Indie Rights because I've heard they are transparent with everything, even sending quarterly reports that shows how your film does compared to the other titles they manage. I've also heard the owner say they send out a 50 page slide deck on how to market since the marketing is on the filmmaker.

Thanks for the breakdown!

I'm sure I can look a lot of this up myself, but what are the payment terms, are they based on streams alone, or it's more complex?

Was distribution like this expected, a critical part of the plan, huge surprise etc?

I actually don't know about the payment terms yet. I'll figure that out when I get my first payment and statement. Indie Rights does a good job of breaking down where all the money came from and how.

When I started this version of the film in 2022, my plan was just Amazon and I was going to do it myself. About two months ago when I finally finished the movie, I logged into my account with Prime Video Direct to set things up and learned that my account has been terminated due to inactivity (I hadn't uploaded the movie yet). That's when I knew I needed a distributor, Indie Rights was my first pick, and they can get me on other platforms too that I didn't even know about.
