Is there a viewfinder that will work on the AF100 LCD screen for handheld shooting? Will the Zacuto Z-Find or LCDVF work on the AF100?

The AF100 already has a viewfinder! And it's ergonomically designed so that when you hold the camera by the handgrip, the viewfinder naturally lines up with your eye.

The viewfinder lines up with my eye for most handheld shooting. But if I am using my mattebox, rails and shoulder pad my eye lines up with the LCD.

It would be nice to have another viewfinder attachment for us guys that need reading glasses.

The handgrip is so bad I can't use it. Not because it's ill placed, but because the camera+lens becomes to heavy. At least with nice glass on it. But yes the viewfinder works in many situations when you can't use the LCD. I tried my Zacuto Z-finder on the LCD screen and it looks worse than the viewfinder since everything is to enlarged and becomes to soft for my taste.

VF is no good for BIG sensor.
We need at least 2' VF for perfect focusing, framing and exposure.
You might mention it in Japan-if they listen.
I just finished first job on AF100 good pictures.......buying RED ROCK VF is next on my list when available... hope it will have SDI connectors not just USB.

One more note.
START/STOP recording buttons are in wrong places.
One should be instead of White Balance button.

That was reported by one of the Osaka group, I think it was Emmanuel? Or Vicenc... don't remember, but yeah, he repeatedly over and over reached there for record. However, this isn't a Sony, it's a Panasonic, and Panasonic has had white balance there on their handheld models for the last 8 years at least, so -- do they change what their existing users are expecting, in order to accomodate new users? Tough question, no easy answer.

had Panasonic 910 broadcast camera-do you want to guess where recording button is? :-)
same spot as any other pro camera on market :-)

I think they should. They're designing more of a digital cinema camera now, so they should conform to what is expected in digital cinema cameras. Personally, I think it's a bad place for a button overall. With the Voigtlander 25mm lens my Durus follow focus completely covers the button, which makes it pain to white balance. I'd like to see the next model actually stick the sensor and mount out an inch or so with the casing being no more round than the typical lens so that more room is left for the follow focus. It gets cramped in there real quick.

Sure. But read what I said -- it's there on the front on their "handheld" models. All of them, dating back to the DVX100.

Barry,
there is a room at the FRONT on RIGHT hand side.
Why not to use it?
Both START/STOP buttons are in wrong places.

There's lots of room on the body; one comment that was made at the Osaka trip was to take some of the buttons outside of the inner LCD panel and put them across the top of the LCD well. That made a lot of sense to me.

But, the fact is, I've been using the DVX/HVX/HMC line for 8 years now, and the AF100 is totally second nature to me. If they changed it all around, some folks would be happy, and a lot of people (especially those who have familiarity with the handheld line) would be irritated. Can't please everyone, unfortunately. Heck, even before it was released, there was a guy who drew a mockup of a shoulder-mount version, asking why it wasn't that way. And others have complained about the viewfinder not being in the front. And I'm sure there are those who wish it was nothing but a little box that you could dangle modules off of.

In the end, they had to make some judgement calls, I guess, and they went with familiarity and compatibility across the line. That'll work for some folks, and not so much for others.
