LCD v. b/w tv as a budget focus aid?

Would a cheap battery b/w tv with AV inputs be better for focusing than a colour lcd display (flip-out, in the viewfinder or external) - especially when working a jib/crane? They are also about $20

I have read several criticisms of colour LCD viewfinders and praise for manufacturers including a small b/w CRT in the viewfinder. I use EVF all the time but still find it hard to focus in shallow DOF conditions.

I use a two cheap b/w tvs that cost me like 15 bucks at canadian tire as production monitors, and sometimes to look at if I'm my own dolly grip. But I never use them for focusing, I don't trust them enough. I think the lcd screen is good enough.
