LCD unit cost

It happened. Moving quickly through a shooting day, someone banged the LCD against a wall and though the camera continued to work properly, the screen went white. I've have an estimate on the repair. Wow, they're quoting $650. for the LCD unit and another $180 for labor.

Does this sound like a fair price? Can anyone recommend a company with (perhaps) a better price. I'm stunned.

Thanks.

Kay

Curious that no one has responded to my note? I just want to know if there are other options for getting an estimate. Do you know of another company or have you had to replace an LCD screen? Does it make sense that this repair is 1/3 the cost of the camera?

Any comments most appreciated!

If you haven't already...Go to the Panasonic website. Go to the support tab, look for find a service center. Enter the model number and your zip code. That will bring up three servicers closest to you.

I couldn't find anything about the cost, but the LCD part # is VYK2V46. Panasonic's website has a PDF parts diagram that may help if you're handy and want to tinker with the LCD assembly. Might be a relatively simple repair. Good luck in your search.

Key,
The price sounds right. We are one of Panasonic's Authorized Service Centers and we charge $641.64 for the LCD + $180 labor. We are in Los Angeles and can complete the job in a few days.

Wow, sorry man, it sucks things like this have to be that expensive. $180 for labor, ok whatever, but $641.64 for a small LCD screen is absurd. That thing costs panasonic $20.

I'm going to go ahead with the repair, however discouraged by the cost. My camera is sitting in a NY repair place now. Gotta work, gotta have it fixed. I keep wondering: what's the lesson here?

Thanks to all who commented.

I got the same quote... If it's still somewhat working or whatever, you might want to consider getting a 5" from Marshall.. Would be about the same price... Then you will have it for other cams too

cheers

Man I'm going to be a little more careful now :D

I second an external LCD, built in one isn't great from the start.
