LCD screen soft/audio low on DVX100B

I just picked up a new DVX100B. I have been using the DVX100A for three straight months, so I have lots of experience with it. To me the LCD screen on the DVX100B looks noticeably softer than on the DVX100A. I usually don't use the enhance function and have been able to judge focus very well without it. But without it turned on the 100B it looks WAY too soft. I thought that the LCD was supposed to be better than the one in the 100A. I also find that the headphone levels are much lower on the 100B than the 100A. What gives? Did I get a dud?

It's not a question of focus problems...it's that the LCD monitor on the camera looks soft...softer than the older DVX100A LCD. I never had to use focus enhancement on four different DVX100A's that I've used over the last two years. It's just kinda disconcerting....

Hi all,
In May 2006 I posted the following:

'This is an interesting thread. On 16-5-06 I posted '100A v 100B' in the hope that someone had done a camparison between the two cameras. Some kind person took the time to post the differences between the two cameras (which I had already read on the DVX site) but I was hoping that someone who had experience of both would report on their findings. However, I have since had the opportunity to compare the two models side by side and there IS a huge difference between the LCDs and Viewfinders on the two cameras. I would much prefer the 100A (no, that is NOT a typing error) as both the LCD and Viewfinder 'appear' to be sharper and have better colour saturation than the 100B. This becomes more important in very contrasty situations and on a bright, sunny day I found the 100A Viewfinder and LCD much more pleasant to use than the 100B. Why this should be I have no idea, but it is significant enough for me to want to buy the A instead of the B - in spite of the other improvements. Looking forward to reading other people's findings on this thread!

At that time there were no replies to my post but I have since used both cameras extensively and the 'problem' still exists. I believe, according to Barry, that the 'apparent softness' of both the LCD screen and the Viewfinder is due to the image being underscanned and therefore more of the picture area has to be displayed.

But yes - you are correct - the 100A viewfinder / LCD still looks much sharper than the one on the 100B. I have learned to live with it!!!!

JAGM.
