LCD screen problem - all white, no image

Hello everyone, this is my first post. I am a graduate film student at a big public university in Los Angeles... :)
I bought a "nearly new" DVX100B off of Ebay last week and it came today in a tough airport-traveller's hard case, packed with form fitting foam. In other words, it wasn't shoddily packed.

I charged the batteries and turned it on...and the LCD screen is blank! Not black, blank -- as in nothing but white, no menus, no nothing. None of the buttons affect its blank white state.

However, the viewfinder shows a picture and the other functions seem to work.
The tape will record, but no playback shows up on the LCD, although it shows up in the viewfinder.

Can anyone suggest what could be causing this blank, white screen? Has anyone heard of this issue before?
Should I try to get my money back from that fraudulent Ebayer or is it something simple that I don't know about?

Any response helps. Thanks!

Julie

That definitely isn't proper behavior -- there's something wrong. It's not a setting or anything like that.

Sorry to tell you, but I have the same problem about 2 years ago with Sony VX 2100, a single drop of water fall on the display and it just go as you said blank. Went to service and replace it, in beetwen my first video shooting.
