LCD not working WHITE?

anyone know what happened?

my friend has an HVX

The viewfinder works records fine, but the lcd is all white.. and flickers here and there..

anyone know any solutions? I might just bring it to a service center to get it fixed for him..

what would void the warranty? The plastic between the camera body and the lcd was opened to be investigated.. would that do it? the piece is put back already.. minimal scratch marks..

thoughts?

It sounds to me like you already know what happened! What were you "investigating" by pulling apart the connection of the LCD? Trying to see if you could flip the LCD to work with a 35mm adapter?
As has been stated in other threads this would definitely void your warranty.

no it was having that problem before I opened the piece.. I thought it would be a simple fix.. but it doesnt seem like anyone had the LCD problem by doing that procedure.

I know Dennis Wood of Cinevate damaged a LCD connection while investigating the LCD flip switch on one camera -- I can't remember if it was an HVX or a Panasonic GS400, it might have been the latter. It's definitely a delicate part that isn't supposed to be messed with.

Will they foot the bill if someone tinkered with a camera, or appears to have done so? Probably not.

Even if you didn't damage the switch/hinge/cable yourself, the fact that you've obviously been in there may mean than you will have to pay for repairing it.

It was the GS400 (same hinge as HVX) but the issue was just that I nicked the riboon cable going to the microswitch. This meant the LCD wouldn't flip like it should have, and this causes a few other issues. It was relatively easy to fix by soldering the trace back. If you remove the plastic bezel first and follow the instructions from folks who've done it, you'll never have this issue. As long as the switch is actuated by something soft you should never have a problem as the microswitch actaully swings back when contacted, like a pet door.

At no point did the LCD stop working though.

thanks but I got it fixed already. Panny warranty took care of it. =o)

they upgraded the firmware for me as well.. which I dont see any significant difference. Oh well.
