LCD HDTV for post reference

I'm going to set up a little post station for a set of projects that will never be broadcast or shown in a cinema. DVD, VOD and net viewing only.

I don't have the budget on this show to buy a pro reference monitor for color grading and reference.
I'm considering going with a decent LCD or Plasma HDTV and a Spyder4TV calibrating system.

Experienced pros, please weigh in with your opinions on:

(1) if the consumer HD + Spyder4TV will produce adequate results;

(2) if you have a better low-cost alternative in mind;

(3) your suggestion for best consumer HDTV for this job, and/or best place to buy it in USA

Thanks in advance for your help.

Get the Matrox MXO2 Mini. That will give you tools for calibrating, and can turn a run-of-the-mill, consumer HDTV monitor into a respectably calibrated monitor.

Thank Alex!

Can you recommend a consumer HDTV monitor that's good for the job?

Do you prefer the Matrox to Black Magic Design's products?
