LCD exposure compensation

LCD on my GH1 always shows brighter image than actual image (especially still images) and I constantly have to check histogram to measure the right exposure. Is there a setting I can alter to turn off this LCD exposure compensation?

You can try turning off the backlight?

I've noticed that in terms of color and contrast the LCD is more accurate....

Check the settings under LCD Mode you might have it on some other setting instead of OFF.

[OFF]:
No adjustment

[AUTO POWER LCD]:
The brightness is adjusted automatically depending on how bright it is around the camera.

[POWER LCD]:
The LCD monitor becomes brighter and easier to see even when taking pictures outdoors.

Mine is set to OFF as well. I find LCD does some sort of exposure compensation in every mode even in M mode except for creative movie mode which does not allow photo. I am not sure why.

It is what it is, I guess. But if there is a way to turn it off for still shots, that would be great to have.

You need to press the DOF preview and the shutter button to see an actual representation of what you shoot. The LCD always shows a bright version of the the image so you can see and focus on your subject.
