This was surprisingly good. I went in expecting a silly movie, but was caught by surprise. Very suspenseful and it kept you on the edge of your seat. Nothing that is Oscar worthy but great popcorn flick. Jamie Fox performance was just okay, but Gerald Butler kept things interesting.

If you are real anal about minor details then you might question some stuff, especially some legal stuff, but if you just watch it for the thrill and suspense you will enjoy it. Don't know if I went in there expecting not to like it was the reason I liked it more, who knows. And F.Gary Gray, though I feel he still has some growing to do as a big time director did an okay job directing this film, he has definitely improved since he directed that mess Get Short 2...lol

I thought it was pretty good. Disregarding minor details, if you let yourself get immersed into their world it was really quite fun to watch. Gerrard Butler is definitely one of my favourite actors right now.

SPOILERS!

Saw this last night.

While I enjoyed it there were quite a few issues that had me scratching my head. Especially the ending. How this guy could not have his secret hideaway alarmed up the kazoo is beyond me. Certainly he would have had some sort of system alerting him that his secret hideout was compromised while he was out and about. The guy had the means and the know-how.

A text to his phone would have sufficed. Had they not portrayed him as a 'brain' I could have let it go.

Some of the legal BS that went on was a little unfortunate as well.

Too bad, it started off great.

Did you hate it right out of the gate or did you grow to hate it? Just curious.

I also thought that Foxx was miscast. He just didn't come off as believable to me.

Foxxxx can almost ruin any film for me (like certain other actors).

However, I was gripped all the way until the end. Why would they risk transporting the bomb back across town (and risk how many innocent victims) just to "teach him a lesson"??
wtf.gif

Killing Butler at that point (the old fashioned way) would not have been hard, risky or dicey...

I think it was right out of the gate. My wife was totally into it and I was like this is terrible. I like Butler and Foxx as actors but I agree that Foxx was miscast.

i was actually impressed with a lot of the legal references and the way they characterized the legal process. i am a Canadian though, so maybe its a bit different south of the border.

I liked it. Its one of those films that gets more and more outrageous as it progresses. I know it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I do tend to like films like that. This one was ballsy with how far they went. I applaud that.

I actually liked this film as well, I didn't LOVE it. I thought Foxx was decent tho.

That is a great way to put it! I feel the same way about Travolta! He just irritates me somehow. He was awful in Pellam 123. His gnashed-teethed, over-emotional, maniacal performances, leave me eyerolling. I can't take him seriously. I am getting to the point where Travolta will keep me from renting a film.

HUMBLE Apologies to any hardcore Travolta fans here...

I enjoyed it as a summer popcorn flick.

*SPOILER*

The only part that I didn't like was since he had the room with all the people he was planning on blowing up under surveillance, why wouldn't he think to have the room underneath with the bomb surveilled too? He would have easily seen them tampering with it.

Like someone else said, his whole character is characterized by being able to see everything long before it happens.

Aside from that, it was very enjoyable. Gerard Butler did very well.
