GH2 Lavalier mic Zoom H1?

I'm shooting a kickstarter video and I'm thinking of leaving my AF100 at home and just shooting with my recently acquired GH2.
I've heard Zoom H1 mentioned but I'm not quite sure how this works. Does it plug into the camera?
Does it work with a Lavalier microphone which is what I'd prefer to record with?
I have Rode NTG-2 boom kit but I'm shooting in a public place and I'm going for unobtrusive as possible.
If I'm unable to resolve this I might have to just shoot indoors with the AF100 and the boom mic.
Thanks for the tips.

It's a mini jack in to the H1, and there's no phantom powering option. It records wavs to a micro sd card. You'll import these after shooting and sync them up to your camera files in your edit system. There's an output socket which you can plug headphones into, or run into the Gh2 input socket - can't remember the size of that one but it's smaller than the input jack on the H1. I have a splitter lead that allows me to run headphones and plug in to the GH2 at the same time. Personally, I'd shoot on the AF100 if the environment allows, and save the syncing hassle.

Depends. I would expect it to work with something like this:

In doing early pre-production with a client for a training video, I used something similar plugged in to a little digital Olympus pocket recorder to capture some rough audio for review later. It worked fine.

EDIT: Google can be helpful with questions like yours:

So it seems like the Rode Lavalier might be a better choice:

Then again, if you already own a good lavalier, then don't spend $249 on the Rode Lav. Why not get a Tascam DR-40 for about $160 (it was $158 on Amazon a couple days ago, so price fluctuates....):

It has phantom power, TRS and XLR inputs, separate left and right levels, 4 channel recording (2 external and 2 internal), and best of all IMO is dual recording mode....

Dual Recording records a second copy of your performance up to -12dB lower as a safety track. This mean if your recording gets accidentally distorted, you'll have a backup copy that isn't distorted.

Dual Recording works in addition to the peak limiting and low cut filter features which also prevent distortion.

The Dual Recording mode is perfect for recording your band live. Just set the unit to record and hit the stage without worrying about the recording getting blown out.

I have a couple of external recorders I use for complicated multi camera stuff with GH cameras (pictured here) - but for a simple standup with a lav, why not plug the mic directly into the camera? Turn the mic level adjust to "level 1" and you should be fine. Here is what the Mic Level Adj. looks like on the menu:

I'm on the road, so the only editor I have access to is Windows Movie Maker, which vignettes everything I upload and can only deal with MJPEG, so please ignore the visuals -- but here's a short clip I just shot to demonstrate the quality of the audio you can get straight out of the camera:

Setup pictured here:

All you need is a lav with a 3.5mm mono jack (I used a $24 Azden EX503 in the video), a $5.60 mono female to stereo male adapter and a $6 right angle 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter.

No need for recorders, attenuation cables, rigs to mount the recorder, syncing sound in post, etc., etc....

Cheers and good luck with your Kickstarter campaign!
