Latitude

Hi...there is a lot of talk about dv50 and how good it looks when your final output is on dvd. But will shooting on hd with the hvx give you better latitude? Personally... I find that shooting on 1080 looks best... are my eyes playing tricks on me?

Interesting, I haven't really tested how the different recording methods affect the lattitude. I've heard claims that the DVCPro codec gives one extra lattitude over DV just as completely uncompressed gives more lattitude does. However, I don't know of any reason why shooting in HD would give you more latitude.

It shouldn't/wouldn't. They're all the same basic codec, just modified to provide "more" in one way or another (DV50 uses two codecs ganged together to provide more color sampling and milder compression, DV100 uses four codecs ganged together to provide 4x as much pixel data, etc).

They're all 8-bit codecs. There should be absolutely no discernible difference in latitude whatsoever.

Than what? Than DV? No, it should be exactly the same.

But yes, it should be about a stop more than a DVX100 would be capable of doing.
