Latest Adobe CC Premiere and Transcoding 7Q DNGs?

Has anyone been using the latest version of Adobe Premiere CC? I'm still on the old CS6, but I know the time is coming soon where I have to pay the $50 a month for CC. Resistance is futile.

I've believe I read that the latest Adobe Premiere CC has been hugely updated to support 7Q RAW DNGs. Can you now transcode 7Q RAW DNGs to Pro-Res 422 HQ at the same, super fast speed as Davinci Resolve? That's been the advantage of Resolve was that it took advantage of the GPU so it transcoded so much faster than Adobe programs.

Transcoding with Resolve is OK, but I really love Adobe Camera RAW and how flexible and easy it with the sliders to bring back the highlights, contrast, exposure, etc... So I'm hoping to be able to move back to Adobe from Resolve if the speed is there for transcoding.

Hey Gene,

As of this week, I am changing my platforms over to a MacBook. I signed up for Adobe CC and have downloaded Premiere CC, altho' I haven't tried it out yet. I'll let you know about the answer to your q.

In the meantime, I note that Adobe Encore is not a standard package included in CC. In order to get Encore, I have to download the old Premiere CS6, then uninstall it leaving the Encore app.....kind of a PITA. Anyway, may I ask you what you use to burn DVD's and Bluray disks? The Mac doesn't come with DVD/Bluray authoring software.

Thanx

Hey Cuervo,

Thanks for the response. As for DVD authoring, I never did anything complex, only just very basic copy files to a DVD and then burn it which one did by dragging it on top of the trash can (weird protocol IMO). I have yet to create an interface or anything like that, or it's been a long while. I think I used to use iDVD which was a very dumbed down, mom and dad type consumer program.

I have an iMac now which does not even have a DVD player, so I can't burn any DVDs or Bluray anymore :(

i did some test footage shots of my employee making Jet Engine parts in 4k , 2k 240 slo mo but we couldnt view the dng files in edius 7. i was pretty bummed out but i know ill figure out a work flow soon. it sucks cause i wanted to transcode my files in canopus edius 10bit hqx files , but now i will have to transcode them into something that Edius can see and then transcode them again, ugghhh does dng files work in the raw viewer? i havent used that program.

will the free version of resolve transcode the dng files or do i have to purchase the latest copy?

Thanks,

it works like a charm - there are just some limitations. Maximum render size is 4K UHD (3840 x 2160px), you have to crop your footage to
4x HD 16:9 or downsample it to 2048x1080 2K DCI if you want to keep the 17:9 aspect ration. Lite version has no noise reduction filter
(neat video is better anyway) and you can use ony one GPU for image processing. But hey.. it's free! And Adobe charges 600$ annual fee.

Gene,

I just had a chance to test a quick import/export of a CinemaDNG into Premiere Pro CC. Despite the fact that I don't know how to apply the right CinemaDNG color LUT to the imported files(they looked purple), I exported the clip to DNxHD. The export went at about the same speed as Resolve, so I think the answer to your question is that, yes, it works well in PPCC.

PP CC will not work correctly with the CD Cinema DNG files until the next update of PP CC in the next month or so. Right now the purple looking clips are normal.

I've tested 5D3 cDNG footage in PPro CC and it plays in real-time, though 4K FS700 footage might need playback res set to 1/2. Running footage through ACR with shadow and highlight recovery as well as pretty good NR and sharpening is what makes using RAW worth the effort. Hopefully Adobe will add ACR controls to PPro and at least apply the full ACR processing during pause and export.
