lastclip.txt

Can someone please explain what this file is?

Is it just a text reference of the last clip on the card? And if so why is it so important?

On the show I was just finished, when I copied the CONTENTS folders to an external drive I DID NOT copy the lastclip.txt files.

So, I have 11 "rolls" of content folders with NO .txt files.

Now, I've been hearing stuff won't import without these files. This is NOT true. I made DVD backups of all the hardrive content, and I just tested it out, and everything imported just fine (fcp>import>P2) without any problems or anything asking for this particular file.

So, what's the big deal with them? If I use rent this camera again for a short I'm shooting this weekend I guess I'll copy the .txt to be safe this time. But it does not appear there is any apparent need for them.

I think the lastclip.txt file is the file that associates the half clips spread across multiple cards together. I didn't copy these once and ended up with an unusable take that was the last clip on card that connected to another cards first clip.

The first clip played well, but the first half (last clip) was unusable.

Wow! Did that make any sense...

Yeah I follow you.

Good thing I didn't really have any half clips then. I was pretty careful to not bridge cards. Though, a couple times I had no choice.

I'll play it later and see what happens.

Thanks.

seems kinda ridiculas for something this advanced to have this. I didn't copy lastclip.txt and had no problems importing... I figured it had something to do with the numbering system for the clips..
