Greetings,
Before posting this I did try to find any posts with any information on this issue but I didn't find any so I decided to post my own message. If anyone can help me with this I will greatly appreciate it!
I have had mostly good luck with not loosing any of my footage while shooting with P2 and working in FCP. But just today there was one batch of footage that would not import and i discovered something strange in the LASTCLIP.TXT file.
Most of the LASTCLIP.TXT files have the number of the last clip (for example: 0005ZK) then 1.0, then another numer than seems to correspond to how many clips are in that batch.
Anyway, this one had gibberish in it instead. I'm trying to figure out how to fix it and so far nothing seems to be working.
1 - I duplicated the LASTCLIP.TXT file, unlocked it, edited it to try to make it make sense for how I understand it's supposed to work. Tried to import then. Didn't work. I'm not sure if it's appropriate to try to attempt the edit the text like that, but i was running out of options.
2 - I tried, via my old PowerBook, to put the Contents folder and the LASTCLIP.TXT file back onto the P2 card and "repair" it in the camera. I got it transferred over, but it all shows up on the camera blank with a red X. When I try to repair the clip, it doesn't work. It does recognize that there are different clips there, as well as how long they are, but doesn't play, show the footage or anything.
3 - I also noticed in this batch that there are 5 clips. There are only supposed to be three. I was shooting two cameras and they were always stopping and starting at the same time time with slates to sync them up. Anyway, the one camera whose batch of footage is working, has three clips. This one that isn't working, should also only have three to be in sync with the other camera but it has 5 clips. Two of which are relatively small. I don't know where they came from and I know that the camera did not stop and start those two extra times because I was the one shooting it.
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for me?
FYI - I'm running FCP 5.1.2 on a dual G5.
Also, here is my workflow when I shoot and import. We are shooting two cameras and we offload footage as we shoot via my MacBook Pro, the P2 Store (as a reader) and a FireWire drive to drop the Contents and LASTCLIP.TXT files onto. We keep them in order in subfolders. So we drag and drop the files over to a FireWire drive, then once the shoot is done, I import them all into FCP.
Thanks!
Simon
