Last Minute Reel

Hi everyone.

Well, this is my first footage posting. I had a job interview today and had 4 days to spruce up my demo reel with footage from my new DVX. I've only had the camera since December, so I didn't have much 24p footage to work with. These 4 minutes are a combo of DVX footage, PD150 and a lot of old 1 chip camera stuff. Basically this is one section of the reel that contains all the small projects I did in school that couldn't really stand on their own. It's really just a mix of shots set to music... A music video with no real narrative. It's a tad amaturish, but I was an amature when I shot all the stuff, so it is what it is. Hopefully it leads me somewhere.

Anyway, the music is my roomie's band - Parker House & Theory. They play in Boston and all around the Northeast/MidAtlantic. CHeck 'em out.

Greetings fellow Emersonian - did my masters work there. You need to tighten your reel. The rule of thumb is no more than two minutes with your BEST stuff up front. Most clients/employers are ready to push the eject button after the first 30 seconds if you don't WOW them.

4 minutes is way to long bro! I totally agree with davecon. Most clients don't have the time or the patience to watch a 4 minute reel. Tightening it up to 2 minutes will help but you've gotta have stronge content as well. It would be great to see a 2 minute version with some of your newer projects. Great job on putting all that together for us.

seriously, it was great footage, but as a demo reel, i would only use probably 1/4 of the shots you had.

Good advice guys, thanks. I didn't know that. I thought when that first guy said "4 minutes, eesh" he meant it was too short.

Got to love this forum for stuff like this.
