I needed a way to display the timecode of my canvas in a much larger font than the tiny little readout at the top of the canvas window.
Found these two great solutions:

both do pretty much the same thing and are free.
they work by reading the MIDI timecode stream that FCP puts out (as long as the audio mixer window is open)
there is supposed to be a way to display the timecode on another networked computer, but I haven't been able to get that to work yet.
