nice documentary you make , allot of movements , following the characters :-)

make an easy on yourself and describe what exactly you are shooting

all of them sounds worst then the sanken or dpa , the b-6 works the worst outside , the stock mic is good for pulling the tampons out mostly
the emw is my favor for low budget

Thank you. Several people have recommended the EMW over the others. I'm shooting mostly outdoors. Run and gun.

from their site

Performance

Very low rubbing noise.
Outstanding sound quality
Choice of frequency response. shelved for normal lav use, peaked for use behind clothing or flat for miking instruments.

If you care about not seeing the mic I would seriously considr the B6. Hiding mics under clothing takes a great deal of skill and often doesn't work anyway.
I'm not a sound guy, but I work with good ones and they often carry at least one or 2 B6's when they want to hide a mic . The sound quality is supposed to be very good. Don't scrimp on a couple of lav's its a poor place to save money.

I don't know aboutb the outdoors issues though.

Except the stock G2 mic, all those mics have advantages and disadvantages (you left off the COS11). For walk-n-talks I tend to use the b6 but it is more sensitive to wind then other similar-priced lavs. I have been using the PinMic more and more these days; set it, and forget it. Has already paid for itself many times over in lost headaches. But I wouldn't give up the b6 for versitility.

If I could only show up with one lav I would choose the B6 (with MicroCat).

Cheers

I assume that you are saying that the stock G2 mic has no advantages over the others listed. What are it's shortcomings?

I've been using the G2's for a while now. Its a good mic for the price. The sound is good in most situations. My main problem with it is that it tends to take hits quite a bit and usually in the worst possible moment. Sometimes the hits come when the talent moves, sometimes there is no easily discernable reason for the hit. I guess I've gotten using to being very careful about monitoring the audio as its easy to miss if you arent paying attention - esp when you dont have a specific audio guy on set - which is the case for me 99 times out of 100.
Good luck!

Thanks. I just bought an ew-100 used. I will eventually upgrade the mic but probably not until after I find a second ew-100. As long as it does okay it will probably work for me for a little bit. I use lavs mostly for interviews.

Valladao, you're making a very common mistake - confusing the wireless kit behind the lavaliere and the lavaliere itself. A lavaliere mic can be wired or wireless (though most use it wireless). Drop outs and RF hits are not a function of the lavaliere, but the wireless kit.

The stock lavs that come with the G2's - the ME2 or the ME4 (not to be confused with the MKE2) are really terrible. They are very susceptible to clothing rub, sound tinny and thin and are fairly large.

The consensus opinion here is that the COS-11 is one of the best sounding lav's, and the B-6 is the most versatile, especially if you need to hide it. The B-3 is the most widely used sound reinforcement lav used in theater and the EMW is a great low-budget lav. The Pin-mic is a great option for hiding in plain sight (though I haven't actually heard it yet - Wabbit want to post a sample?)

If you look through the stickies at the top of the forum, you will find a link to an A/B comparison I did (though G2's) of the B6, the EMW and the ME2/4. Your best bet is to listen and decide for yourself which one will work best for your application.

I could rant how poor the stock mic (ME2) is but if you want to hear it for yourself there are some comparison samples here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=45427

Be sure to thank Phil for his efforts.

If you are working on a super tight budget the EMW is mad cheap compared to it's quality. Everything below it is a waste of money...which considering the ME2 is free (with a G2) is saying everything that needs to be said.

Cheers

Thanks guys. It's actually easier for me to borrow a good mic when I need it than it is to borrow the whole wireless rig..at least until I can afford to buy my own. SO I might have the opportunity to try a few different lavs with the Senn wireless set-up.

I love this site!
