This week, i'll be recording (hopefully) some lecture..

anyway, since its gonna be around 2 hours, i and i cant afford to swap over tapes, i've decied to take my laptop and capture straight to my hard disk (from Vegas) and edit it right on the spot, BUT since i dont have a DVD burner on my laptop, i'm gonna wifi to my desktop (i've not done this before, so if anyone has any idea how to transfer files betweem two wifi computers please share)

I save so much time from re - recording material from tape and the moment recording is over its right thier to edit! sweet, its like DV rack i guess,

Re: :) laptop recording!

Have you considered a firewire link between the two computers? Way faster then wireless. large files will break during the transfer and you will have your hands full just getting files from A to B.

Re: :) laptop recording!

your right, as long as both computers have usb 2.0, otherwise its much slower.

Re: :) laptop recording!

Not sure of hard core speeds, :-/ all above are still better then WiFi - either way I strongly recommend against trying to pass huge files via wireless.

Re: :) laptop recording!

could i use the 4 to 4 pin firewire i have for my camera, do i need any more software?

tanks for the advice guys

Re: :) laptop recording!

That would depend on what you have for cards. If they both only have 6 pin connections then you would need a 6 pin to 6 pin cable.

Windows has network soft built in.

Re: :) laptop recording!

The DVX102a will record to tape and the hard disk. or To the hard disk only or to both chained so that as the tape runs out the hard disk will roll and record. Maybe all that could wifi'd in to your system - LOL

DV Rack would be an excellent option for you also ( in slave mode). Use an external Firewire or USB drive from your laptop.

I would roll tape what ever other option you use - just in case.

Re: :) laptop recording!

firewire is def faster than usb 2.0. Lemme know how it works, i'd like to do it too! :)
