Laptop not recognizing DVX

Hey guys,
I have a laptop with Windows Vista, and whenever I try to plug my DVX (or my capture camcorder) into the firewire expresscard slot, absolutely nothing happens. There is no "new hardware" notification and neither one of the camcorders show up in the device manager. I've tried making some phone calls as well as searching online for clues for a solution, but have found nothing. I think Vista's the culprit.
Any advice?

See if you can get ahold of a firewire hard drive or other device. If that device doesn't work, then you might have some sort of compatibility issue with your express card.

Yeah, I'll see if I can get a hold of another firewire device and try that out. But I do know someone with a Macbook Pro so I might try the card in there and see.

Vista is the culprit. I have the same problem with both my Panny GS320 and my DVX100. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have not been able to isolate the why's and whens, but I assume I will figure out what the difference is from one time when it works and a nother when it doesn't.
But I assure you it is a Vista issue.
Google Vista + firewire issue and you'll find lots of folks talking about it on lots of devices.
Not to say you couldn't behaving a hardware or wire problem, but I have this issue strictly from Vista.

Yeah I think it's a Vista issue too (and if it is, I wish I could find a fix for it), but I've never got it to "work" even once.

ouch, that sounds irritating, hmmmm. I say you should just get a DV deck or Capture cam, and not even connect the dvx to the laptop, save some life on your cylinder heads.

haha now that i think of it, i dont even know if my dvx connects to the PC, i never to did, i just use a cap cam.

Yeah that's why I'm worried about this because my cheaper camcorder (which was supposed to be my crappier capture camera) won't work on it either. Very irritating indeed.
