Laptop isn't seeing EX3 through iLink....

My Win7 laptop has stopped seeing my EX3 when I hook it up through firewire. In fact, none of my computers seems to be seeing it now - Vista or Windows 7. My camera isn't that old - only 5 months old - any advice?

I tried plugging in a friends EX1 into my laptop, and that didn't get seen either. I'm really wondering if some Windows update has done something to my computers, or if the Firewire ports have some how all gone bad.

Windows XP, Vista or 7 will not see you camera natively without some special driver that either you have purchased or comes built-in with you NLE software. Windows will only see SD devices on firewire. Firewire on an EX3 will only output a HDV signal and not HD so you will need to check that also. Set the EX3 to HDV mode and open you NLE and selected a HDV preset and you should be able to see the signal.

Thanks for the response, but here's the odd thing - it was working fine. I was able to use the camera with 2 different laptops on Adobe's OnLocation and capture from it fine. Then one day - nothing...and I didn't install any drivers to do this. There aren't any that came with the camera, and I don't need to see it in my NLE (Premiere Pro) because footage is either coming in from the SxS cards or HDV footage from OnLocation.

You know how when you plug a camera into a computer through firewire, Windows dings that notification sound...I don't even get that.

The EX3 must be in HDV mode to use OnLocation so see if it got changed to HD. If the camera is in HD mode then the firewire post is dead and Windows will not see it or ding.

Thanks for the post - it is in HDV mode. But here's the real puzzle...I took someone else's EX3, plugged that into my laptop and nothing. It all makes me think that maybe a recent Windows update has done something to my computers - there have been a lot updates recently. I would agree that the firewire port on my camera is bad if another camera worked with it, but they don't. And I would think that my laptop firewire port is bad, except that I can plug other things into it and they work fine...
