Laptop and Vegas

Guys, I am thinking about buying Vegas to edit my Panasonic DVXPAL footage.

I got laptop and thinking about buying one JVC monitor and external hard drive.

My questions:

1) what are the companies for hard drives you reccomend and how big hard drive should be (for 3hrs raw footage) and where I can buy one?

2) 14" monitor JVC is enough? I am cheap, it is ok to have just one monitor besides laptop monitor?

And in the end, do you think I can edit on my laptop?

Thanks a lot,

Voytek

Although I use my WORK computer for Vegas, I do have it on my wifes Laptop and it works great.

Re: Laptop and Vegas

1) I have had good experience with both Maxtor and Western Digital. For laptop use on the go, you might want to look into notebook hard drives and their respective external enclosures as they can be powered by USB (so you don't need a power outlet to use them).

2) Do you mean a JVC broadcast monitor or a computer monitor? If you are getting a broadcast monitor, I couldn't think of a reason why you'd want more than one anyway. And if you're wanting a computer monitor, I think you can really only add one extra monitor to a laptop anyway. So I guess in either case, the answer is, one is enough :)

Re: Laptop and Vegas

1) So, working on my laptop I will use one monitor (JVC broadcast, but 9'' is enought?)

What size in your experience is minimum?

2) I will buy external hard drive - 60 GB is enough ( I will have about 3 hrs raw footage)

Is it enough?

3) Do you guys know if maybe it's better to buy Direct Capture Hard Drive(30 GB for 600$) I could save capturing time right? Gimme your thoughts about replacing external hard drive by this device.

And in the end: just read this and tell me if my laptop is really capable to work with Vegas:

Microsoft XP
mobileAMD Athlon XP1800+ (processor)
654 MHZ
480 MB of RAM
40 hard drive
Int. Explorer 6.0

I am waiting for your reply. Thanks.
