lapse of time, cloud essay

Sweeeeeeeeeeet :)

Now that's truly mesmerizing! One of my favorite songs too.

I love how timelapse like this can open our eyes to the world around us.

Nice work.

Cool. Were you recording straight to an HD on this? I figured that the P2 card would fill up too quickly for this kind of thing. Or did you rig some type of intervalometer? Anyway nice work.

thanks, i think that was all 5fps, occasionally if the clouds are slow moving i'll do 10fps. There's plenty of time on one p2 card for this kind of stuff. You get about 6-7 minutes, and you'll rarely see a timelapse clip anywhere that long.

I always like timelapse clouds that have the fingers of God in them.

Couple things.
I thought like above some of the shots were a little on the dark side.
Even though it's a timelapse, trees always distract me because the jiggle so much.

To me the clouds are graceful and the tree looks like more like me trying to break dance. :)

For regular clouds TL's 5 and 10 seconds are good for allot of movement.
If you want to do a TL of clouds during the sunset which is one of my favorite times, the sun sets so fast that the time they're lit up by the setting sun is gone in a blink of an eye at 5 and 10 seconds.

I usually slow down to about 1 frame every two seconds to really get a chance to see the clouds lit up.

Thanks n8ture, and i totally agree, for sunsets 1 frame every 2 seconds is the way to go. I think the first shot was every 2 secs, but it came out too dark. And i know for trees it's generally a rule to keep them out of a TL shot. In my case i was shooting everything from the same window, and it became impossible to keep them out for the sake of framing what was interesting in the sky that day. By including trees i'm also trying to stretch the bounderies of what is acceptable, so i did excpect back lash (in a good way). My main concern is that this clip stutters a bit for me on playback. Is the link stuttering for anyone else?

The video stutters for me but I haven't restarted my Mac for a few weeks so that just may be it. The audio though played through smooth

it stuttered at a couple of spots on my end too. almost like some frames were dropped during optimization or something. music was fine.

Thanks. I too restarted my mac and plays much better. I think i had image stabilizer on when shooting, and even in final cut i was noticing some stuttering issues. Can't really tell if the image is smooth right through. There is a little bit of peaking in the audio, i know for sure. But it's the image i'm not sure of. In anycase, thanks for the help. Anyone notice the bird in the lower left 3rd shot?
