FS7: LANC Record Trigger

Anyone have any suggestions for a simple record start/stop trigger for the FS7? I don't need (or want) zoom control and would want to replace the handgrip with something smaller than I can position as needed.

I got the trigger grip from ergocine which i like but I never could establish a secure 3rd party lanc connection. i reverted to simply pushing the big start stop on the smart si=de of the camera.

"secure" - Do you mean physically the connector wouldn't stay in place, or that electronically the communication was unreliable or limited?

I can say this - the Sony FS7 primarily responds to a newer subset of Sony specific LANC control commands, not to the older generation of LANC commands that some grips are programmed for.

Personally I've played with a custom LANC controller using a pic32 board, but I've never manufactured it.

Shooting Machine is working to solve this problem in a pretty cool way - more soon.
To James' comment- In our programmning Sony LANC commands are unchanged from FS100/FS700/FS7.

Why not use the standard IR remote?

Ideally I'm looking for something I can clip to either a tripod arm or a set of handheld handles, and be smaller than the handgrip. The IR Remote wouldn't work in handheld mode, nor would I want to have to keep track of it.

I'll see what info I can share and circle back- we have something coming that is prob exactly what you are talking about.

I still had a JJC SR-VD1 from my FS700 in the cabinet. I checked for the FS7 and it works.
The clamp is too small to mount it on a tripod but you should find a solution.
(As I wrote above I prefer the IR remote ;-) )

communication was unreliable. Im now used to staring recording on the body and I don't own any electronic lenses so its all analogue anyway.

This is interesting, I sent the smart grip I purchased from ergocine back for the same reason, intermittent control communication. They did some rewiring and are shipping it back, I hope it was just a bad connection in the grip but will keep people updated. I really want the ergocine grip to work, its a beautiful design.

Replaced the Smart Grip with a wood grip from Wooden Camera, & the trigger has never failed me, but out of habit I tend to start/stop using the large button on the body.
