Lamp Storage

We usually store them in their original packaging and throw them in whatever container will fit them all. Don't see anything wrong with a Pelican case, though it might might be a bit overkill. The smaller lamps aren't that delicate.

We have found the original cardboard boxes to be a bit of an issue, mostly because we do a lot of rentals, so they get thrown around quite a bit. I always see other rental houses will end up with a piece of foam wrapped up in tape with the lamp inside, when that's what you are going to depend on in a pinch, it doesn't really inspire confidence.

We are thinking about switch over to Velcro labels, so they can be quickly swapped.

For our larger globes, HMI's and bigger tungsten globes, we use Plano ammo boxes. They're clean and can easily be filled with foam.

Usually we toss these in the milk crate with the lamps, or if they have quite a few we will put them inside a pelican.

We also keep an alcohol wipe in each one, that way when you put the globe in you can give it a wipe down.

Thanks for the info.

@RyanT - yeah I want to lose the original packaging, those Plano Ammo boxes look like a great option.

The ones with individual slots seem like they'd be great for a few smaller globes. I think I'll try some with and without dividers.

For me, it's a Dewalt drill case, the "briefcase" style, with all the partitions cut out, and foam. The foam gets slits for the globes, the globes get sharpied with their wattage on the ceramic end, and the case has alcohol wipes and... white cotton gloves, man!

My tungsten stuff comes out to about 5 different form factors (open faced, various fresnel sizes, pars/lekos) and one case gives me a wide variance of wattage for each fixture (probably 20-30 globes in there at any given time) that's all visually laid out when you open it. And it can fall off a truck with no breakage.

Ebay is full of hardshell tool cases... the blow-mold style seems like ti would be a ***** to cut, but with most drill cases you can chop out the dividers with a dremel or one of those reciprocating fan-blade whatever ya call it tools.

I keep my smaller lamps in these smaller aluminum/plasticy cases from Harbor Freight… http://www.harborfreight.com/11-x-7-x-4-aluminum-case-69316.html , and my larger lamps for say junior lights in milk crates.

I might look into some other solution in the future, as I have pulled the majority of my Tungsten lights off the truck and gone mainly daylight.

I sold my larger Tungsten fixtures maybe a year ago, and will likely sell off my 2K juniors, and weed through my kit to make it a little more manageable, as I have around 45 Tungsten lights at the moment.
