Lag issue.

I'm cutting 18 layers of sd 24pa, in FCP 5, off of a my book studio FW 800. I have never had this lag issue before. When I go to delete video it get the pin wheel of death for 10 seconds, and then deletes the video. This is a new problem, because I have cut 20 layers of 720/24p without any issue before. So what is the problem now?

Well it's kinda obvious ain't it? You're massively overwhelming the abilities of your FW800 drive. You either simplify your timeline and subclip compositions, or you move up to eSATA RAIDs,

hmmm. It still shouldn't lag, why is it laggin now with sd. I have no other projects open.

Well let's see- does it lag with 9 layers? With 4? With 12? One of those layers is one too many. It's pretty much that simple.

You aren't being serious about this are you?

This many layers using a FW drive as a media drive?
