Im shooting something in LA (with my HVX) and need a good recommendation for a studio with a cyc thats pre-lit. could be green or white. Doesnt need to be large but i do have to accomodate a car. and always, the cheaper the better. any suggestions? experiences? Thanks for the help.

I would be interested in an answer for that as well. I would like to find a small insert stage with a greenscreen cove for simple stuff and some experimentation. The problem in LA is that there are alot of stages and they tend to be too expensive for the small operations. For alot of them you also need to show liability insurance. Some of them will only let the lower budget shoots on their stages when there is nothing else going on. In other words, you can book the stage but if something better comes along they cancel you.

It would be nice if there was a simple greenscreen setup you could rent by the hour with their lights extra or BYO lights.

Hey guys. I know that it does not help you out right now but we will have a pre lit cyc set up to be completed in October. We are committed to helping indies and low budget productions. PM me and I can give you details.

Also, if i could add another question to all those LA filmmakers: is it normal for a city permit fee (hollywood, w hollywood) within the studio? and how much?

You would not need a city permit to shoot on a stage. However, I have seen stages where there was not enough parking within the property and large vehicles like grip trucks, talent trailers and production trucks had to park on the street. That requires permits and probably a police presence. I am not sure of costs but they vary quite a bit by city so shooting in Glendale for instance might be more than shooting in Burbank or Hollywood. Don't forget about the liability insurance you will need in order to get those permits.
