KxS is dead, long live KxS

Hi guys from your latest new member

Hi guys from your latest new member

This is great news about another alternative to SxS as well as KxS.

Can others confirm this Delkin units capabilities as similar (better or worse) than the Kensington?

Andy
EX3 and KxS user.

Thanks for the info, GuyB. You always come through.

So, if this combo works will you dub it the DxS? I'll be testing some DxS juice monday or tuesday. Hope it works as well as KxS.

Thanks Guy for all the work.

I know Guy is still concerned about the reliability of this card so I hope everyone goes into this with eyes wide open. Only two people have tested this card.

In time we''ll hear more abou this card.

Since Ned Soltz has stated that he used a older Delkin and it did not work. I went to Amazon and they sell two differnt types of Delkin expresscard 34's so make sure you pick the right one.

Hi Guys,

I will buy any Kensingtons off you EX1 guys that need the door to shut. I have EX3's and I'm looking for 4 more Kensingtons. PM me.

Thanks, frisco

Certainly the amazon.com customer reviews of this particular Delkin express card 34 adapetr are pretty mixed regarding it's reliability (for PC/MBP type use rather than EX1/EX3) so I guess we need a few more tests (and testers!) before everyone rushes out buys these things in bulk or swaps adapters! Guy is right to be cautious.

Having said all that, it is supposed to come with a 2 year guarantee!

Once the dust has settled, if everyone finds them as reliable as I have so far, if there are any locations that do not have a supplier of the card I hope to be able to help them out.

OK I have managed to trace them in the UK. And what an utter disgraceful RIPOFF.

At B&H the price is $39.95 Only trouble is they want to charge $55 for postage. For a small little adapter.

So I went to the Delkin UK site and traced it.
http://www.delkin.com/store/uk/product.php?productid=345&cat=59&page=1

£49.95!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( which at current rates is $77. Basically twice as expensive. What an utter ripoff.

So I can buy two in the UK for 99.90 plus postage ($155 +P&P)
or two from B&H for $79.90 (£52) plus a ripoff $50 to make the total $130 ( £84)

Looks like B&H is the route, even with a huge postal charge. because buying them from Delkin UK is a P take.

Edit. OK just got the best deal possible on these cards.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220308876354

Price was $34.95 plus only $25 postage to the UK for two cards. Much better. ordered and paid for.

So if you are looking for these cards, and are in the UK or mainland Europe, this place looks a very god bet.

Thanks, Steve, for the research. Here in the Netherlands the little f%@kers are also about twice the B&H price... Just ordered 2 Delkin (I know Belkin but Delkin??) from your guy at eBay.
I've been following the K&S thread on another board and was wondering if Sony ever took an official stand on this matter. Have they ever been questioned about it by a journalist or someone from the dv community?

Jeroen

Yup also ordered Delkin adapter from that guy from Ebay! Thanks for the tip... That way I wont trim my new Ultra II SDHC Card... I'll just wait for that new adapter!

I paid a fair bit for mine as well, AU$116 which is about AU$30 more than the Kensington which was already a bit overpriced here, however that was from a supplier who was probably not used to selling more than one a month so has a big margin on them.

I'll be importing them to Australia for locals and will do a better price (much closer to the Kensington).

Please let me know how your tests go, as I have said, I wasn't really ready to claim absolute success with this adaptor yet due to such small scale testing, so please post your results back here. If there are problems we want to know about it ASAP.

I have been shooting with these cards since the 25th and have not had any problems with them. Amazing to see that B&H is out of stock of these things in a matter of 2 days.
Hope everyone else has good results as I have had

I just realized I had an adapter already inside my computer.
It was a sony VGP-MCA20A
I stuck in an SDHC memory card from my other camera (the canon HF100) and proceeded to edit the footage. The memory card was a transcend 16gig class 6 card.
It worked that way, (editing and playing avchd footage at 1080p/24 with no frame drop..seems fast enough)

Does anyone know if it can work in the EX1?
The cards go all the way into the unit, so this ...if it works, may be the best solution for closing the door.

Is that the 'VIAO' branded adaptor? If so, no one I know has tested it yet but we know the Sony EX reader does not work.

I always thought it would be funny if that VIAO one did work but I never thought the chance of it was worth buying one to test.

Just a note of caution, it appears there is an older Delkin reader that does not work properly. From the images I have seen it has the Delkin Device logo on the front and the SDHC card does not insert flush.

The new card does not have the logo on it, it is as appears on my site below and the SD card DOES mount flush.

Ensure if you are getting a Delkin reader you do not get the 'old' model.

GuyB,
Thanks for passing on this discovery!

Yes, I tried the "older" Delkin expresscard about two months ago. It gives a media error.
I will have to look for the newer card.

Just saw a promotion from Delkin for 25% off everything on their website, with free shipping for orders over $100. Only good through November 30 at midnight, though. Use promo code HOLIDAY.

For US customers only, what a pitty. When will these companies learn what it means
to make use of the internet and have a global market
