Koscina NOKTON 25mm F0.95

has been mentioned here before.....under voigtlander. I wonder now: who actually builds these?

It should be Cosina in Japan - but with the name Voigtlaender they seem to have also bought a treasure or patents, licenses and construction know-how from a company that was for years (in the time dinosaurs roamed the earth... ;-)) seen as one of the top camera and lens manufacturers in Germany - on par with Leica.

They also seem to own old patents from Carl Zeiss and probably still have licenses from Schneider Kreuznach. I own a 50mm Nokton f 1.1 and it's really a great lens, only produces halos around sharply defined and very bright light sources at 1.1 - probably a problem with the sensor reflecting or something else. But that's okay with me - shooting at 1.1 gives you headaches focus wise anyhow.

So I will hold my breath until the new 25mm f 0.95 thingie arrives in my country. Have pre-ordered one and will share my experience.

Cosina/Voigtlander is a well known 3rd party manufacturer, used by many OEM's as well. They made lenses and/or bodies for Minolta, Olympus, Nikon, Pentax etc.

Many of the current 3rd party lenses not by Tamron/Tokina/Sigma are probably made by Cosina.

The current Zeiss rangefinder is made by Cosina, C/V itself has a very nice range of M-mount lenses that are of their own design.

If the 25/0.95 goes well, I'm expecting C/V to adapt some more of their manual focus lenses to the m4/3 mount... not just remounting the lens in m4/3 but adapting the formula like the 50/1.1 to 25/0.95. The C/V 15mm or 12mm would be a great start.

Hi Kin Lau,

apart from all of that: pure mechanical quality is outstanding. The 50mm is heavy, yes, but it focusses smoothly like a Leica-glass. And a 12 mm would be just great.
