Please enjoy and subject me to your frank and insightful criticism. Sorry Mr. Sandstrom but it became Sandstorm in translation, will change that, put you on credits for your filterswork and also your version of the point and shoot curve.
The semi old lady is the actual motel owner, she was amazing I think.
If you are in Seoul please PM me and we can meet.

Very good, imho. Acting was believable within the style, and the storytelling made me want to see more of before and after.

What did you use to color correct?

loved it, except maybe the ending which seemed like a cliffhanger rather than a twist, if you know what i'm saying. the images were great and the grading too. you lost the blacks in some shots in the motel, i guess it was on purpose even though i didn't quite get it, but it looked a bit weird. if you want the blacks to be muddier you should probably desaturate them, as it is now they're blue.

(it's mattias with 2 t's btw, thanks for the credit)

Thank you DanDOF for your comments, it was difficult to convey the story shortly and coherently since it came from a nightmare which ends with blood it's no excuse in the first place and actually a great thing...so Mr. DanDOF how do you direct your actors? What i'm asking is we are both in the business of persuading semi if not pro actors to say the weird words we put down on napkins, so what's your experience? I consider myself an amateur so all input is vital, I'm not one of those sensitive morons who turn on you because you criticize my dolly shot. PM me if ness. I graded it on magic bullet looks, the thing was to keep consistency, i mean the greens and the flesh tones, i basically had a recipe and then added or subtracted from that, i will tell me recipe if you'd like that,.

Mr Sandstrom, thank you for your comments and frankly speaking I am renovated by even the slightest constructive criticism. My friend Park Kyung GUn would like to say hello and that he likes your trailer..umm..your Fuertaventura trailer. I am at a loss how those blacks just f*cked off in those 2 shots..it wasn't deliberate as you kindly indicate but a probable problem in setting the D90. We were using a 150W spotlight and a 500W floodlight and i had replaced all the light bulbs in that particular corridor from 30W to 100W but I can't for the life of me figure out why the blacks in those 2 scenes suck. Thanks for all of your constructive criticism in the past on this forum and your advice as it really helps us adhere to values of quality and technical know-how. I hope Fuertaventura will be shown in Korea.

Great movie Pveal, very cool. Are you going to be entering that into any Korean Film Festivals?

Loved the locations, which city was that shot in?

Hello artforme, thanks! It was shot in Seoul. The exteriors are in an area of Seoul called Chungaechun which is a slightly bizarre rabbit warren of tool shops, machinists and metal workers tightly wound inside a kind of cave system lit by neon, it's weird because right next to it is the heart of Seoul aka Jongno which is hi-tech and commercial. I moved house 2 years ago and stayed in that motel and every night the lady would make me Ramyeon noodles and talk my ear off and i asked her if she's let me shoot something one day, so in May she agreed and volunteered to act aswell, she rocks and so does her dog.

Artforme thanks for your feedback and if you are ever in Seoul let me know and I'll show you around :)

I've actually been living in Seoul the last year. Lovely city, and makes me appreciate your movie that much more. Although I'll be heading back to the states soon to start up grad school in production/communications.

But yeah, your casting was great, that 'ajumma' :) was a wonderful character. Look forward to any future projects you do as well.

wow, what leneses and lighting did you use? What editing software and what was your workflow?

What did you use to record sound?

Im very impressed with this, i cant seem to achieve the same results in low light as this, id really apreciate it if you could share some of your workflow

Haha that short was hilarious and awesome. Reminds me of the surreal shorts that make up Chris Morris's Jam series.

Also kudos for making me have the compulsion to download it from vimeo... freeze frame by frame to see what the flicker text was at the end...

Wow, amazing work,

The colors and lighting were very surreal, the simple design of the shots and lighting really stuck in my head.

I actually watched it with no sound and still got a great mysterious feeling from watching it.

Amazing work, you have a great talent for filmmaking. A perfect d90 film...

I must say I watched it again and it's still awesome, despite borrowing abit from Matrix Reloaded. My favourite bit is when the girlfriend smiles so innocently when he looks at her for permission to be fondled! Hahah!

Wowzers! Thanks for all your kind comments, was burning my skin in bangkok for a week and refused to go near a computer.

Mr J R Hudson, thanks for your commentLove your blog esp. Spielberg motivated camera move tuts Indy and wotf is great and i watch them often , thanks

Matthew Bennet thanks to you as a d90 pioneer, the macro shots in my piece are all down to your info about how to do reverse lense macro, so thanks.

Bandanadan, thanks! I am a fan of chris morris but haven't thought of him for ages since you m- mentioned him, my favourite Chris Morris line is from Brasseye: Animals "You can kill an otter in about a second...just kick it's face off." btw, what's the Matrix moment?:)

Ah the bit when Neo has to go to the keymaker but Persephone wants a kiss infront of Trinity, and she whispers stuff in his ear. I don't think you meant to do that consciously, but yeah it's always funny when our influences sort of creep up in our works.

Yeeees! Another Chris Morris fan! My favourite line is from Jam's Suicide sketch "He said he wanted to jump 40 times off a 1st floor balcony rather than off the top of a tall building in case he decided to change his mind at any point..."

Which festivals are you sending the short too? :)

Hi Bandanadan. thanks.

Re matrix: yep, now i'm up to speed, that must've been a case of brain recycling idea without consent, or something like that, im sure Monica Bellucci snagged the anchor on that one.

Re festivals: tentative, just korea, some deadlines coming up, we'll see.

"roboiplegic wrong-cock"

FYI here is a snap Hana the actress took. That's a 150w spot wrapped diffused with baking paper by the door. The light from the right is 500 w tungsten worklight. Also lots of orange ambient light from street lights. So a 50mm 1.4 was useful in these conditions.
