Quick 60 seconds here on the new grip we're making. Shootingmachine.net is updated with our new parts.
A new website is coming with a real e-commerce shop - lots happening behind scenes,
but in the meantime- here is the scene!

I think the point is this little marvel will work with FS100 as well- for the FS700 which has the Arri rosette, there will be more solution available - but I doubt any will be as functional as this one :)

Caleb, will you also implement the LANC focus control? For the FS100's kit lens, that is...

Oh, and perhaps a separate trigger for the nanoFlash, whose 'greatest-support-on-the-planet' manufacturer dropped implementing the long promised 'trigger-with-HDMI-embedded-TC' option :(

EDIT Just saw it all on your website...

Man... my profound respect goes out to guys like you who can innovate and improve like this. It really does look classy and functional.

Concept looks exelent. Briliant shape also, looks like you going to fly an jet.
I personally would prefer plastic/rubber against wood as material. Look and practical-wise
I also prefer shutter-gain-iris on the handgrip instead of extended focus and display but I guess it is not possible.

Just IMHO

Thank you gentlemen- Your words are humbling. I can promise you that I am working as hard as I can to make this grip a workhorse - with a nice profile

Working as hard as I can in between cocktails atleast ;-)

Joost anything that can be User Assigned (6 ASSIGN buttons) can be programmed into grip choices - it will have 3 of the 6 ASSIGNS. I can't figure a clean way to program all 6 - but it's possible I suppose. I think we will have software to let you decide how to program many other features as well as control nano flash through the aux socket.

Super-sexy. Anything that speaks to that Eclair and Aaton design-function aesthetic will be very, very popular. Lockout record switch... LOVE THIS!!!

Nice Job Caleb. There is nothing like the feeling of hardwood in your hand! LOL! Anyway, the hardwood handle is way more comfortable and secure of a grip than plastic and rubber. I am glad that my top handle is made of wood. I have got so many compliments and it makes the camera look even more expensive. I'm sure when people start using this they are gonna love it.

Yes absolutely Matt. The AF100 is straight forward. I just have to make up the wire. May need a special relay but dead simple.

Like this SO much better than some of the "built in my basement" solutions I've seen.

Are the grips going to be consistently milled/shaped between samples? (that's what irked me about the cheaper home-made solutions; you just didn't know what you were going to get).

Love the walnut; please no plastic or rubber!

Am I correct in garnering from your website that the joystick is to be replaced by buttons?

Thanks!

Thanks Steve, yes there is no difference in shaping. I shouldnt say "no" as wood is wood and there is some personality to it. (We will soon offer custom shaping and "burl" wood - same stuff they make violins & italian gun stocks from.) Your eye will see some differences - your hand will not. The joystick has to go. we are cutting grip shelf closer to a 45 and placing some tactile buttons near thumb but not under. The AUX socket will have a clock for timed and synced triggering (pyro) the AUX will also trigger a nanoflash type device - with the camera trigger. The grips will have user definable software released later at $100, at first windows only- mac later - this will allow upgrades to using new cameras as manufactures make them more of a nightmare to trigger and also allow user set up of what the 3-4 buttons control and how. with only a few buttons we are designing simple sequencing for limited multi use of each button. 3 ASSIGN buttons will permit almost any function the camera has right from the first unit we ship next month. we're busy! it's like designing your own dream!

Sounds great!

One thing I just noticed upon watching the video a second time: the handle looks like it mounts really high (i.e. mounts from the bottom of the grip) - and from the position in the video, looks like it would be awkwardly high if the camera is resting on one's shoulder, with a rail system and shoulder pad, and side-mounted EVF (like the Zacuto/Cineroid/Alphatron).

Any way it can be mounted lower - i.e. BELOW the rails?

Seems to me Ia recall a double-rosette extension adapter that was shown at NAB that might do the trick...

Good eye Steve. That was essentially a mocked up rig for nab. Total redesign done 2 weeks ago. It mounts lower now, just like you observe. It was made high because I'm an adjustment freak and I wanted 2 axis rotation on the fly. with our new design we lowered it 4-5" and kept the 2 axis option. The new design is pretty cool - I'll show you the drawing via email. Not a CAD just my sketch.
