Know about Knowing?

He's taking some pretty hefty checks to the bank being "odd and annoying". I'd say it's working for him.

Well, Bush, that's an honest assessment anyway. He's just what I thought, a fake who acts fake because it pays.

Be better if he acted well. That pays, too. :)

He's found a niche that works for him on the world stage. That's actually pretty rare. He's an entertainer who a lot of people enjoy. Why should he be what you want him to be?

It's not rare for someone to find a niche that works for him on the world stage. Hollywood has many ways of making that happen for any Tom, Dick, or Harry. Actors are a commodity, a product on the shelves. Some of them happen to also be appealing enough so that a majority of the public "like" them. Others, like Cage, resort to inventing and contriving a "personality" to make themselves less insignificant than they are in real life. Sad, really.

I was gonna say! His first post was “I dont hate him (at least as much as other people)” but seven pages and rolling into a new month say otherwise.

This guy has definitely done something to you, lol.

Yeah, it's silly, eh. To get so intense. Probably true to say that all actors have a bit of that phoniness in their personality. Just that Cage's is more obvious than most.

Yeah, live and learn, Josh. I guess I have to admit, I do hate him. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Sagan, how do you feel about Hugh Jackman? Or Margot Robbie?

Well, Bro, not being a chauvinist, I'm quite willing to say that I think very little of Hugh Jackman. In fact, how he became a "big star" eludes me.

I haven't seen Margot Robbie in anything so far.

Now I'm curious...who do you like?

Have you got all day? I'll assume you're not being facetious, Bro, and I'll answer it but partly, and very briefly. I had to look up a list to make sure I didn't forget anyone. Most of those whom I rate highly are, naturally, the older ones. And this isn't all of them;

Robert Duval, Will Smith, Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Harrrison Ford, Charles Bronson, Lucy Fry, (Yes I know she's an Aussie), and Christopher Walken (and I'll just bet you make something of that.):)

Directors: David Lean, Mel Gibson, Hitchcock..

As I said, that's just a teaser.

PS: And I like Lucy Fry solely because she looks like a girl I used to know, who, coincidentally, was Russian. So sue me.

Back in 9th grade, we got a new transfer student. Her voice was fork-scratching-plate. Grotesquely unpleasant but not intentionally so. At some point, I began to cover up my ears. Then, other students began to notice me covering up my ears and laughter would erupt as soon as the young lady in question began to speak. In hindsight, I feel pretty bad about that. I made fun of her for something that wasn't her fault.

Besides, she was in no way as screechy as Bon Scott. Just in the wrong profession, wrong place, wrong time.

Unalloyed interest.

What do you think about Mel Gibson as an actor?

I think he's a poor actor. Like a lot of Australian actors, he can't get past his Australian nature, which is a bit reserved and uncomfortable with "pretending".

I see where you’re going, but want to hear your rationale.

My rationale for liking Walken? Well, I think he tends to get his screen persona from within himself, like an alter-ego which he doesn't get to display in real life. I don't think it's a contrived manner, even though it's a highly visible manner. From what little I've seen of him in real life, he seems shy to the point of discomfort.
