Just saw the film.

You guys really, really, really have it.

Great acting.

Great tone.

Great story telling.

Great directing.

Great writing.

The only things left me to ding are technical / maybe just a matter of taste: Saturation and Shallow Depth of Field were a little too intense for me. The saturation level brought the production value down a bit for me. And the SDOF was so DVXuser 2008 ;)

Those two technical elements kind of stood out because the rest of it was unimprovable. Pitch perfect. If the SDOF was eased of and this had a more "filmmic" grade like A BRIEF CASE it elevate to another level I think because it would be so slick along with its otherwise pitch-perfectness. All IMHO, of course. *Filmmic, not that it has to look like film, but it would have had a more aesthetically pleasing / polished look that would have suited the black humor I think. Also, less, especially in grading, is always more. A Brief Case, if I recall, had a very controlled palette both in the art direction and in the grade, again if I recall correctly. I know part of that was to evoke a monotonous office aesthetic. But here when every color has emphasis, it's a little tiring to the eye and a little more videoy. *again not playing the video sucks and film rules game, just that one "type" of look has more percieved polish over the other. And again, the execution was so well polished everywhere else.

So really those are minor. That's all that's was possible to be critical about. If those were different I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it more (because I enjoyed it so much that wouldn't really be possible) but I would have been more in awe of your awesomeness. Maybe 2% more. Since I'm already fairly maxed out in that area as well.

Great original voice.
Very hip.
Very entertaining.
Excellently executed.
Very clever / well written.

Can't wait to see more of your work and I really hope "Wayne" is in your next piece as well.

Applause applause applause.

Thanks Jack!

I definitely agree with you about the color. Actually there was no color correction on this at all, it's straight out of the camera (except the scene where the bad guys are coming out of the bar, which was day for night). Same with A Brief Case. Interesting that this feels more filmic - just goes to show you that the camera itself has very little to do with it - This was HVX w/ Redrock and A Brief Case was straight DVX.

Yeah we love Wayne, we did probably twenty or thirty commercials with him. And Ellie, the woman who plays his ex-wife, is actually his wife. We miss all our Vermont actors now that we're out here on the west coast. But most of them will have parts in the feature that we're working on now.

Thanks again for the critique, glad you liked it!
