Knee settings on the CX350

Can someone explain to me what is "knee settings" are and what they are for, specifically on the CX 350, I'm a beginner, so don't mind...thanks... :2vrolijk_08:
 
I'm sure Chris Young will chime in with a more complete explanation, but to put it simply, knee is an old fashioned method of compressing highlights. On Sony cameras, it often looks ugly with yellow/green shifts when highlights should be clean white. I've never used a CX350, but my advice for Sony cameras is to turn it off. Today's cameras have much better methods for maximizing dynamic range and knee is outdated. When people say they hate the look of a video camera, that is one of the main culprits.
